Nowhere scientific but I “kinda retired”. A good buddy of mine knew that I did and he knows my hobbies etc. Anyway I now work on golf carts, about 50% repair but in 7 months we are growing a great book of biz building carts unique and what the customer envisions. Reason I chimed in on mice is because seems everyday a repair will come in and the wiring is decimated. They are now in the shop. I have found them migrating into FRESH territory, can’t have that. So I tried everything for bait. Canned cheese seems to be “ top of the food chain”. Just my observation but if you could eat them, I could have free lunch a couple times a week. P.S.99% of the carts are not used for golfing, they are used as one would use a side by side. They see fields, barns, sheds etc.

Gas or electric?
-
Just got this one home to final detail it.
A customer ordered it and I just finished it. 6” a-arm lift, 23” tires, leather front and rear seats (real leather), carbon fiber floor mat. Madjax parts. Played with the motor with a different piston and bored with some headwork. From 11 hp to 18, gobs of torque and calmed that down with some higher speed gears.
Body off and painted it “plum crazy”, it is crazy cool the colors- purple, orange, green, blue ad nauseum. So many color changes if it or you are moving. The black top for it is going to be 84” and it is on the slow boat from you know where.
Started life as a 2015 Yamaha, white and 1 of 35 from a fleet we bought.
The white one is one of ours, it is from the same fleet. My poor wife BEGS me to doll one of them up….winter projects I keep telling her.
-
Nice work.
I have never been around them, we rented one for driving around a little zoo, I got in and started up through the paths and well it didn't work out so well. My knees don't bend very well, so being all cramped up I wasn't able to get the brake, I didn't hit anything but I left her drive. She thinks we need one for some reason. The one we had was electric.
What is under them, how hard would it be to split it right in front of the seat or right behind the front wheels and add in maybe 10" or so? We would be going back to the old Mopar color of Plum Crazy Purple also for her if we did one.

Depends what mfgr. as to what is underneath them structurally.
Yamaha is steel frame, club car aluminum, ez-go aluminum as well.
I have cut 3 in half basically and added another row of forward seats but with a mfgr kit. 4 people sit forward and I installed back facing rear seats. Total of 6.
Having said that, it would not in anyway increase driver leg room.
If I were to undertake it, I would start with electric (much easier to lengthen wiring than cables for gas). It would however require superior welding skills (frame work) and fabrication skills for the floorboard. If I may, is it your knees only that make it difficult to access the pedals? I am currently just starting to research hand controls (stick controls are available and a joke) for a Customer whose wife has M.S.
Long winded but if you can sit comfortably without pedal utilization I am confident that is doable, I am early stages of that process.

Not sure how I missed this! Electric.
After getting the cart (we believe a 2011) in 2016 with original batteries, we replaced them in late 2018 with new lead/acid. They lasted a dissapointing 18 months. So decided to go lithium in 2020. More power and much longer range with them.
That is a nice cart!

Nicely done on the lithium. 18 months? Yikes!
When I redo battery carts I prefer Trojan but they are a hard sell for most, otherwise Interstate for lead acid. Lithium is the way to go but also a hard sell on the retail end because of different charger etc.
-
Yeah, hard to have to shell out an other $400 on a new charger, but it should last awhile. We probably should have gone with the Trojan the 1st time, they were like $1200, but the shop said hey this $900 set is just as good. When I call to tell them they wont hold a charge they tell me, well they only had an 18 moth warranty. After that I was done with conventional batteries! The lithium is a RoyPow 51v. Hope we did not get sold another bill of goods? It charges in like 2 1/2 hours, is supposed to last 10 years or 3500 charges, and is supposed to have a 5 year warranty. We can go about 3 days use before it has to be charged. That never happened with the acid.
Let me ask you...if you know. When not in use, should we always have it plugged in? Whether fully charged or not.
-
You should always charge your batteries after every use no matter how much you use it. Furthermore, you should not exceed 5 hours of continous use without recharging (think round of golf). I also dont recommend leaving it on a constant charge, while in theory it should be okay, things happen and the circuit breaker in the charger can and do fail although rarely and that spells disaster for the batteries. One last thing, it is VERY important to keep all connections very clean and tight, whether lead acid or lithium. I cant tell you how many times that has been an expensive lesson that customers learn. I use a protectant/sealer from Club Car on every terminal after they have been thoroughly cleaned and tightened. Any good sealer is fine, I just use Club Car.

A couple of others.

I like the mustang. My first car was a 66 fastback. It is great having a lift at home, when I bought my place, it had a center post in, I found a used wheeltronics alignment lift and put in. I don't use it much, but it is great to have when you want to work on something.

Love old mustangs. Hard to do a fastback because of the back end. When they asked me to build this one I jumped at the chance. Hard to imagine but the body starts @ $3,000.00 retail, opening trunk and hood? Add$500.00. Oh you want it painted? Add? I didn’t pay that much for the parts but it was still quite expensive. It started life as a 2004 Club Car. They said “just do it”, they didn’t care what it cost, those were their words! I spun up this motor also and high speed gears. It is a tad (just a tad) sluggish out of the chute but boy howdy, honest 37-39 mph. Scary actually but it drives straighter than a lead launch from a high powered rifle.
-
I sure as xxxx would not want to go 35 mph in my cart! 19 is fast enough!
-

Nuff said, it really scares me and I built it. When it finds itself….boy howdy and you are about 10 inches from asphalt.
The Club car RXV’s can sure scoot also, fastest stock cart I have ever driven.
-
How fast can they get the electric's up to?
-
Thank you for fixing my hijack.
Electric and wowzer, They are North of 120 mph in the 1/4 mile.
When you have a few hours……google “ plumquick” golf cart motors. They are SURGEONS in electric motors. I have had 2 bandit motors built from them and installed for customers. That is where they start and get more vicious every step upwards.
As you know having electric, it is “right now”.
I never would have thought this in my wildest imagination the open field for these rascals. It is crazy. I just finished installing underbelly lights, roof lights and a “wetsound stereo” system for a kid, probably 35 if I had to guess. The cart was a Club Car and he ordered it brand new a year ago from a dealer in Kansas City, had them do some neat stuff but somehow and ( I didn’t ask) him and the dealer got cross. He found us and I finished it……. So I asked him, how much you got in this? He said, once I square with you about $25,000.00
I have built probably 30 carts varying in complexity. So many repairs I couldn’t count.
In 8 months we have sold 57 carts.
Shoot I had trouble making car payments. Oh well.
-
120 in a golf cart? I would take that ride, it has 4 wheels, be easier for me to keep it out of the ditch and upright compared to 2 wheels.
I would imagine a lot of suspension upgrades for something like that. But I bet it would be fun.
-
Are you sure you understood the question? :pig:
Electric and wowzer, They are North of 120 mph in the 1/4 mile.
I was at their website awhile back, I could not figure out if you bought an engine from them or you sent yours in to have them rebuild? Do you have to add a bunch of anncillory equipment to make the rebuilt engine work? Their stuff won't even work with Lithium?
-
Typically you send the motor in and they rewind it.
In some applications yes you need to buy different cables and controllers etc.
I havent done any lithium stuff but I believe they in fact do most, if not all the hot rod stuff with lithium?

I live in a lake region where many people have 2nd homes. Golf carts are everywhere in this 2nd home world. I've seen people spend as much 15k on a cart.
The owner of my family business is a mustang junkie. He rebuilds them from scratch with all original parts. He would go nuts for that mustang model.

Sweet, sounds like here….ish. Small lake but very secluded and very well kept. Houses here range from about $200,000. to $1,200.00. There are 67 houses and you have to have a minimum of 3 lots to build. We got lucky and bought 6 adjoining lots. Kind of weird but if someone has 1 lot they can use the lake but no structure at all. The dues are $1,200.00 annually and an additional $120.00 per lot. When we bought here 5 years ago we paid $6,000 for each adjoining lot. 1 on one side and the 2 lots on the other side. Now only 5 years later IF you want to sell a lot, start about $20,00 to $25,000.

I have a 2007 Western cart. Can't play golf any more but I use it for going grocery shopping and visiting friends. it has 6 8V batteries and is street ready, i.e turn signals, break lights, seat belts, horn and license plates. Top speed is >25 MPH.

Oops I missed this, I just worked on a Western, neat old carts.
I traded for this club car and it was a mess, sat in a barn for 8 years. I was going to part it out and started and then thought why not doll it up instead for my wife. We bought out 2 retiring cart mechanics and one of them had brand new still factory wrapped bodies, this one struck me as the perfect color (real men drive pink golf carts). 2002 DS 48v and all done except a new navitas controller and plum quick motor, lights and backseat. Turned out pretty neat I think and Gwennie loves it.
-
Did it come this way or did you upgrade it? We might consider relocating closer to town within the next few years. I know that our cart could be made street legal with the requirements below. If you had it done, do you recall what the ball park cost was?
Or yorkdude, can you ball park it?

It was in awful bad shape, wasp nest everywhere, mouse or rat chewed wires etc. I bought it for $200, body I had from buying out another dealer and I know I have been unable to locate this color anywhere, a new cowl and back is around $500.00 my cost but the freight will make you shiver. I put in new batteries $760.00 my cost (interstate gc’s) and the seat bottom and back my cost $245.00. Tires/wheels $415.00, smoked windshield $90.00. Lots of cleaning (lots) and lots of rewiring and boom. I will have spent another $1,200 on the motor and controller (my cost). I opted for a controller/motor combo that can be tuned in real time plus I have used the key option lock out for the Grandgirls safety…..long and short of it pricewise, my money so far $1,490. I did not count the body cost though because I had them. I will be in the cart just south of $3,000.
-
I was meaning what would it cost to get a cart like mine street legal with lights and turn signals!
-
I was meaning what would it cost to get a cart like mine street legal with lights and turn signals!
A street legal kit for lights in our town has to have heads and tails, horn, turn signals and hazard lights, brake lights and USB charging ports plus state of charge meter (last 2 aren’t necessary for legal reasons) That is in town mind you. The kit (deluxe containing all of that) is probably $200.00-$250.00. Install I charge between about $750.00 total including kit. Some carts are easy (older ones 2-3 hours if you truly do it right). The new Yamaha quiet drive is miserable to do, about $900.00 for them done right.
-
You might also check this, most areas also require a DOT approved windshield and I failed to mention side view and rear view mirrors.
-
I don't think they can be made street legal in PA. Mostly see them in the campgrounds and some at the local dragstrips.
-
Thank you. $1000 is not to bad! Virginia is somewhat ambiguous as to individual municipality regulations, leaving it up to each. If the move ever does occur, at least I have a ball park!
-
Brought out 2 carts for the neighbors to goof around on for the weekend. The pink/black is my wifes, the red lifted is a Vivid peak 4 and the orange one I built a bit ago. We just got the Vivid dealership rights after negotiating some. If you get a chance google them, holy smokes they are phenomenal and I have driven them all, this one flat scoots. Crazy cool.

I have a 2007 Western golf cart. I bought used in 2014 for $2300 but it needed batteries. This cart has 6 8V batteries and a built-in charger. I just replaced them again earlier this year. Here in AZ., with it's 115° heat, batteries don't last very long. A friend replaced her lead-acid with lithium, cost her $4K with charger. My electric wheelchair runs on a 24V lithium battery that cost $295. A charge will take me 14 miles and max speed is 3.75 MPH. I found a local shop that will convert my cart to lithium for $2400. Yorkdude, what is a reasonable price for lead-acid to lithium conversion?
-
For what it is worth...We converted to a RoyPow 48v 56ah Golf Cart Battery - LiFePO4, going on 3 years ago with charger ($400) was about $2100.
A friend replaced her lead-acid with lithium, cost her $4K with charger.

Bentley can attest lithium is the only way to fly.
I am an “Eco battery” dealer and our pricing is determined by them and they are VERY strict about it. Google them and you will see based on your needs the cost. You might also look @ “buggies gone wild”, there is a wealth of information on lithium as well as incredible knowledge “auggie dog” pat911, simicrintz amongst others. They not unlike everything else have really gone up. I dont think Bentleys set up can be bought for that $ currently. Trust me on this, you do NOT want to buy a cheap set up! They are expensive but worth every penny. Roy-pow is also very highly regarded although I have no experience with them. My shop can be found by googling “golf cart repair, St. Mary, Ks”. Bentley if I shouldn’t have said the last sentence please remove.
-
I hope you are flooded with business!
-
Your business would thrive here in AZ. We have 5 courses in our community. almost everybody has a golf cart, whether they golf or not. lots of custom carts, mostly electric. unfortunately, we also have a lot of them stolen. A lot of people have had their common key switch replaced or installed a kill switch.

If I can figure out how to get my phone photos onto this dang I pad I have a commissioned build for K-State as a fundraiser (raffle thing) they saw a custom I built for someone else and gave me a rough idea of what they wanted. Sounds braggart as xxxx but boy howdy it came out SO slick! They raised over $80,000 is what I was told?

I gotta see THAT!

Not an Apple person but the GF is, she said if you are signed in to your account both devices and your pictures are saved to the Icloud you can get them that way, I asked he if they had Bluetooth and she said yes, so you could transfer it.
Apparently you can Air Drop them also, she was telling me how to do that. That maybe easier to just look for a YouTube video.

A few of the K-State cart.
-
Beautifully done.
-
Looks great. Also looks like you are staying busy after retirement ;)
-
Very nice! Would love to have a Fresno State one!
-
Purple, I would be allowed to buy that if I wanted to, the GF loves purple. If I want anything and it comes in purple I just buy it and she says nothing.
It looks great.
-
Kind of like boats. As long as I named them after them my current significant other, I never had any objection, no matter the cost. i.e., Sandra V and Lady C.

Get yourself a new purple smoker. Heck, get a purple Ferrari. ;D

well she does have limits, I showed her a purple Street Rod and a purple Super Bee with a 440 6 pack and got a NO!! rather quickly.

Not a Ferrari etc. but it is a comment getter. Debi's car official color "Plum Crazy". We ordered from the factory to get the all the options we wanted in Debi's purple.

Challengers are nice cars. Got a friend that has the Hellcat.

So not a big deal but a tad funny.
I had a gal call me a week ago to discuss picking up and repairing a cart, sure I said let me schedule a pickup for you.
Went to pick it up at it was quite rural, once there (on property) it was very nice, so I went through the gate and was met by a guy about my age wearing only a tank top…….nothing else!
-
Sweet! They get Freaky in Kansas...Did not know that!
-
Okay the guy had a tank top, what did the gal have on?
-
Sadly enough a tank top also. >:(
