Title: DB temp reads high
Post by: nick9one1 on June 20, 2024, 12:02:58 PM
I recently bought a second hand DB. I've noticed that the temp from the pit probe is quite different from the temp in the middle of the grill.
The heat shield in the manual looks quite different to what I have. I think it must have been redesigned at some point?

mine looks like this http://www.bbqsaucereviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/GMG20.jpg

Any tips/suggestions?

Clean the temp probe with a wire brush.  That's the really old style heat shield and very hard to get the temps even on both sides.  Do yourself a favor and get the newer one piece stainless steel one.  And welcome to the site.

I have the exact same heat shield (2013 model). After a lot of experimenting I ended up pulling the left side out and temps really evened out. But every pit is different…

After 20+ years of pellet cooking and chasing steady temperatures for many years.  Unless you are baking, where you need accurate high heat.  My advice is just cook!
