Heading to Dallas/Ft Worth area over Labor Day weekend. Anyone have any BBQ recommendations?
-
Rudy's was passable. Can only attest to their St. Louis ribs though.

Is that the gas station place?

Never been, but the #1 bbq joint in the Texas monthly is in the area. If I was in the area I would try Goldees bbq.

Wish I could help...I could tell you a place to get pretty good Crawdad Etouffee!

It is and I agree that it's passable but that's about all I can contribute. NorCal Smoker has a good plan of checking the Texas Monthly list of BBQ places.

And the owners of Goldee's have open a new spot, Ribbee's (923 E Seminary Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76115). But they are strictly Ribs. I guess they do Pork BB, St Louis and Beef Back.

I was at Rudy's in Houston years ago and remember liking the jalapeno sausage. Thanks for the tips. Keep them coming if anyone else has been to anyplace in either city.
Sorry, Bentley, but I do not eat fish or seafood or rice and beans for that matter too.

Not to my recollections. Both Rudy's we went to were restaurant style establishments

This was the one that I was at many years ago - probably almost 25 years.

It has been several years since I have been down that way. When I was there I didn't have a lot of free time and no real inclination of where to go. There was a fair going on and a friend of mine and I spent an afternoon walking around the fairgrounds and found some great vendors.
On the one free night we had to explore, we stopped at Cooper's Old Time Pit BBQ. It is on Stockyard Blvd. in Fort Worth. We had not received any recommendations or read any reviews. We were just hungry, driving by, and it looked like it would be worth a try. I cannot tell you what I had, but the place left a good impression. Being hungry and in a new place probably helped contribute to that assessment. Besides, everything looks good in Texas!
Safe travels! Be sure to post where you end up and what you thought of it!

It has been a while, probably 6 years but we went to Lockharts, it was pretty darn good but I just looked it up and reviews are quite mixed.
That is the only thing I can add.
Travel safely.

It's been a number of years since I've been to Dallas but there are two memories that I have . At one place they served whole peanuts as appetizers, and you threw the shells on the floor. The other was a place that, as you entered, they took a pair of scissors and cut off your necktie and pinned it to the wall. I do not remember the names but over several visits, I lost a few good ties.

Lockhart's was on my list to hit on my way back north to Dallas after going to visit some Stevie Ray Vaughan related sites before I hit some art museums in Dallas.

Man, that is a lotta BBQ. The Sausage looks good!
-
I am taking that first tray, swapping the brisket for either Rudy's or Lockharts, those beans look great and I am not a bean eater, but I would be eating on some of those. I like the color of the Oak'd sausage not sure of the flavor profile on it, and I am also a fan of sliced point, but it just looks like it has no color unless it is just the lighting.

Pecan Lodge
I'm so glad you hit Pecan Lodge. The best ever bite of BBQ for me was their beef ribs.

It was some of the best BBQ I ever had until I went back to Rudy's and then Terry Black's. If Terry Black's had the Pecan Lodge brisket and mac and cheese, there would be no need to eat anywhere else.
