Title: With a little bit of sadness...
Post by: Bentley on March 14, 2025, 01:06:23 PM
Hello friends,

We are writing this because we think PelletFan has run its course and is pretty much coming to an end.  We appreciate the last few who have tried to keep it active, but reality is setting in.  For whatever reason, the site is simply not as relevant as it was in the past.  Because of that, we lack new content to keep it growing.  I don't think anyone is to blame for this, it is just a function of folks moving on.  With that said, we will not be renewing the Host Gator contract in August of 2025.  They have tripled in price since August of 2022.  They now want $240/yr or almost $600 for 3 years.  We obviously do not want to pay it, nor do we expect the membership to pay it again.  We had considered ads, but we thought, that changes the whole feel and look of the site, so we ruled that out.  We thought we would offer it to someone else to run, but  figured we might object to the direction it was taken, so rule it out too!

We am giving this notice so that if folks have some recipes or a certain section of a thread they want to get copied they have plenty of time.  We don’t know if this site will live on in archive fashion with the Way Back Machine (https://web.archive.org/) site or not.

We have come to know some of you on a personal level and have enjoyed the interaction we have had.  Many of you have been very kind to the site and we will always appreciate that!

Your friends Bentley & Kristin.

If we are missing an option, please feel free to comment!  Or to just make comments in general!

I did "reserve" and create 4 facebook pages with different versions of the PelletFan name so no one else could try an co-op it.  We have never promoted it because this site was better than a facebook page.  But the "main" page -- PelletFan.com with a picture of a brisket -- will be operational.  It is a private page that you have to join, but it will exist.

Not sure exactly what to say……
This was my absolute first view in the morning but admittedly I have not comtributed in a long time. It is a lot of things really but in no order here are some. Smoked out, Grandhoodlums, age, health issues……
This site was expertly run, fantastic people, amazing amount of great cooks/ideas etc.
Just awful sad really, understandable but sad.
Thank you copius amounts to all involved.

The one we are going to use is PelletFan.com.  Make sure CAPITOL P and CAPITOL F all together!  If you are on the right page you will see a thumbnail of a brisket.  I think you send a request to join and as soon as we get it and approve you are in.

I will ASK that (I do not know if this is possible) you include your handle here.  Since this is a public post, could have lots of people trying to sign up that have no business being there.  Not sure if that will work or not!

OK folks, I have screwed up so you will have to bear with me.  When I created the facebook pages, I used several different versions of the Pelletfan name in order to insure no one could come in and take our name.

I thought I created two separate pages -- Pelletfan.com (with the lower case f) and PelletFan.com (with the uppercase F).  For whatever reason, facebook allowed two names with the uppercase F.

I have now remedied this situation.  Pelletfan.com (with the lower case f) already has 40 followers but is not a "private" group.  I think it is easier to just continue and use that page as the main page. That page has a picture of ribs on a pellet pit.  I will tell Bent to make his most recent post there.

The other PelletFan.com (with the upper case F) and a picture of a brisket will still be operational, but we should probably not use it. In fact, I have asked fb to deactivate that page, but it could take up to 3 days.

I hope this is not too confusing.  Please post any questions and let me know if you are having problems finding it.  I am not the best at this stuff

I may end up being forced to give into getting a Facebook account to keep in touch with everyone here.

I know it is confusing with the different facebook pages I created years ago.  I am trying to clean things up and hide those non-relevant pages.  This is the correct page:

Correct me if I am wrong. it looks like this is  a public account right now. Do you plan to make it private to keep the scum out?

I may, it is just that right now I have had so much trouble messing with the various pages that I don't want to mess it up (I deleted this whole fb page earlier today.)  I would just like a chance to have folks find it and then I can maybe tinker.
