LSJoe,
Might as well start out with a Buddy's.
http://www.buddyspizza.com/
The newest one is in Ann Arbor on Ann Arbor-Saline Road. I have not been there.
I have been to the original Buddy's (Conant & McNichols), Dearborn, Auburn Hills, and Livonia.
I have also had Jets & Papa Romano's, but I have not had Shield's.

I'm quite certain that the best Detroit style, in my most humble opinion, is at Loui's on Dequindre in Hazel Park

And finally, if you're still interrested

My only real reference to thick crust was pizza hut pan, which is a greasy nightmare. That is why I assumed I hated thick crust. Not sure which pizza ultimately changed my mind, but I've been experimenting with thicker stuff for awhile now. It's opened up a whole new world in pizza making for me.

I prefer sicilian style thick slices to that of thin NY style pizza.
