The Atlas Pepper Mill
« on: January 06, 2018, 04:25:30 PM »

I have a need for some freshly ground pepper - a bit more than just a turn or two of a mill..My arthritic hands aren't conducive to a conventional mill and the electric grinders produce ho-hum results....There are several methods listed when I do an online

search for grinding pepercorns. None seem to  be likely candidates... Then I saw the Greek, hand made mill. The ATLAS. Solid brass or copper, hardened grinding mechanism and a handle that should make operating the mill very easy. It ain't cheap but may be

well worth it to me due to its ease of operation and construction.

Does anyone have any experience with this mill?

no atlas mill but I bought one of these for my Mother years ago, she used it and liked it, she had arthritis and nerve issues in her hands.

I have a couple of those Greek style coffee/pepper mills.   I believe if my hands were much worse, I could probably not operate them efficiently.  This is very similar to what I use now and I like it.   Easy on the hands.   The only drawback is small reservoir.

I have a set of these, both at home and on the boat. They put out copious amounts of fine or course pepper.

John a quick question about your arthritic hands if I may? Have you checked your meds and the side effects? I kept getting the same results of arthritis factors very high and problems with my hands and other joints. Come to find it was all from side effects of other meds I use for maintenance drugs. Many generics have a filler that causes this problem as well as some Name Brands. I cannot take Crestor as it causes this problem for me. I also take an anticoagulant, Coumadin. I tried the generics and within 2 months was unable to use my hands and my arthritis factors were sky high. Went back to the Branded version and problem solved. NO pain.

I mention this because I'm sure I am not the only one that has these issues.
Bless you and may you find a solution to your pain.

Sincerely,
Mike

Thanks Mike for the heads-up..I'll ask about the meds. My arthritic hands are due to worn out joints, the same as my back. It is I just can't hold or squeeze objects well and pain is sometimes involved. The price to pay of many trips around the sun.

No problem I just wanted to make you aware. As I was unaware for a time. I understand back problems. I have had 6 back ops over the past 30 years and they want to go back in again. NOT!!! I will deal with the pain. :)

I have had this for years, love it. It could hold more seeds but can't imagine being without it.
