Nope. I used "grill grates" .... as in the manufacturer.... they did very well. We're looking at about 4 minutes per side on the pictures shown so 8 minutes per steak give or take. Very happy with end result.

I think I’m done waiting for Mak to come out with their portable cooker...I’m ordering a DC for the camper now. Your pics did it for me:)

Those steaks make me want to try it!
I have done reverse sears on the DC many times and sear on the IR gasser

Just say NO to the sear...

   Here's a tomahawk steak I did on my Davy Crockett.   I think I did this at like 275F start to finish...  If you notice, I actually raised lifted up my little cooking mesh screen off the main cooking grate to get away from the direct heat a bit more.

Not that I'm totally against a good sear, it's just that it's not always needed and, well I haven't figured out how to do this on my Davy Crockett yet.
