Pork Pulling Bonanza
« on: March 02, 2018, 12:51:37 PM »

Our local Hy-Vee grocery chain has pork shoulder for $.99 /lb. It has been running from $1.60 -$1.80 lately from Sam's Club, and other outlets lately.  That mean's I will be looking at getting twelve  9 - 10 lb shoulders, smoking six of them and freezing the other six. Added some freezer space by getting that frozen 16 lb brisket out.  Gonna be a busy next couple of days with for the DB!!

What time will I need to be there?   ::)

I did a small pork butt on my DB yesterday.  Your DB should be getting hazardous pay for all the work it is going to be doing.

That is a very good price.   I smoked two pork shoulders on the Memphis Wednesday that I had frozen last October when I caught a sale.

I went to HyVee Wednesday when the sale started. I picked up 20, 16 went in freezer for a graduation party, 2 currently curing for pulled ham & 2 prepped for a overnight smoke for seniors on sons HS Baseball team after practice tomorrow. I cleaned the South Lincoln store out of anything around 8# or larger, most are between 6-7. Out of twenty, one was larger than 8.5#. I’ve noticed Tyson butts in our area are usually smaller than other brands.

I went and got eight 8lbs ones last night. This morning I went back and asked a guy behind the meat counter if they had any bigger ones. I came home with six 9 lb ones.
