Now, in the early to mid 80's, as an adult, we cooked 3-4 years for a Renaissance Dinner my mom would do at our church.  It was full blown, Prime Rib, Baked Potato, Nottingham Green Beans, Figgy Pudding and Wassel!

Wassel?  Spiced apple cider and orange juice?

I think this was a purely spiced up apple cider!

No, it was a true wassel.  Mom got a recipe.  I don't remember all of what went in the cider, but it was a muddled color, so if it was to have OJ, then I am sure that is what she added. For some reason, I seem to remember her adding fresh lemon juice.  We had both orange and lemon trees in Fresno, so she probably went out and picked them fresh!

One of the banks in town does wassel every year around the holidays. Don’t know what is in it but it is pretty good.
