I dumped traditional cable a couple years ago now. I have an antenna in the attic with a Tivo box and also have had Hulu streaming since dumping. I have replaced traditional cable/satellite with the online live TV streaming services. We used PlayStation Vue for about a year and recently switched to Hulu's Live TV in addition to streaming. I don't miss much about cable except the up and down buttons to flip through channels or type in the channel number...so it does take a bit to find what you want until you get used to it and mark all your shows as favorites, etc.

However, the savings was a gimmick. ALL of the streaming companies are now jacking up their prices. I was at $25-30 to start, now it's up to $50 plus. Vue raised theirs before I switched, Hulu just a couple months ago. It's getting very close to cable prices when you have cable in a package with internet. I hardly watch non-network TV and would just have Hulu and Netflix if it wasn't for sports. Live sports keep me on some sort of cable 'type' solution. If you don't watch sports, Netflix, Hulu, and/or Amazon Prime might be all you need. You can also by Tivo boxes designed for over the air that also have the Netflix, Hulu, and Prime apps on them so you only have to go to one place to find everything. There's lots of options, but in the end the money will probably be a wash unless you can be satisfied with Antenna and one or two streaming services. Please ask up if you have more questions though. I still think I like it better than traditional cable because of the on-demand stuff and the lack of commitments.

I have several Roku's but you need cable service to get the most use out of them, but you don't need a cable tv box hooked up to the TV if you use a Roku.  Usually pays for itself in less than a year.  I did use SlingTV for awhile.  That is cheaper than cable, and you can use that on a Roku.  Depending on where you live, try Locast.com.  They also have a Roku app.  It is probably 30-60 second live tv delay, but it is free for all local channels in several metropolitan areas.  I would use Sling TV exclusively if my wife didn't need a DVR and watch channels not offered by Sling.

I have LG fridge.  Best we have ever had.  The linear compressor makes it almost silent. I would not hesitate to try their TV as well.

Since nobody answered your initial question I will make this my first post. Just bought an LG  55 inch OLED,  did not want to because of the price, but my Samsung plasma finally quit. The picture quality far out does anything else on the market now you actually have a true black color.  i’ve only had it a couple of months but have had no problems, I also have a LG 65 inch LED TV with no problems.  as far as navigating the settings it is very easy to do. And if you have a Apple TV there is quite a bit of 4K programming available. In my opinion it is well worth it, as long as you have a source of good quality programming to take advantage of the picture.

My thanks to all I went ahead and took the plunge and purchased the LG 65" and am looking forward to seeing the difference between our old set and the new one.  I picked the 65" based on the size of our TV room and articles I read that discussed the distance between the tv and seating.

You won't regret the decision. We moved our 65" Panasonic plasma upstairs and purchased a 65" LG OLED for the basement. It's amazing. The top rated Sony OLED TVs actually use LG OLED screens and then use their own engines. And LG is much less expensive.

Please make sure to inform us of how the new TV preforms. Evidently "sound" is an issue w/ some of the newer sets being so thin that speakers are comprised.  I would be interested in your take on both picture quality and sound..Thanks.

Samsung appliances were bought for our kitchen.  The microwave sensor which supports things like popcorn and cook until done vs time went out just after the 1yr warranty.  Replacing the sensor costs about the same as a new microwave.  The refrigerator started freezing up behind the panel in the fridge compartment until the blades of the fan would make a racket and eventually stop.  Opened and defrosted a couple times then found an online notice about moving a thermocouple from one line to another to change the defrost cycle, no issues since.  However, they certainly do get you on recurring replacement water filter costs... ridiculous.  The stove still works, but the led display has lost one dot in the colon between the numbers, and one portion of one digit is looking like it is about to go.  The door switch for the inside light is crazy sensitive and often walking across the floor by the stove will cause the light to flash on and off.  The dishwasher has a section at the very top for small items to lay flat like silverware, etc.  This has a rubbery surfaced mat which will lift out to carry to the drawer, which has practically disintegrated in less than 3 yrs.

Samsung TV in the living room.  Smart apps for the TV work fine with no need for a Roku or similar device.  The apps do seem to be updated when the underlying service rolls out changes to other devices such as Roku, albeit sometimes with a few months delay.  I read online of some TV apps never getting updated, so I feel lucky about this.  Setting up the remote for the TV to control a sound bar (connected via digital optical cable) and cable box connected via hdmi was a challenge to get the remote changing sound bar volume.  It was definitely not intuitive and there is essentially no manual available.

My 81yr old Mom has an LG TV.  The remote for it controls a pointer on the TV screen which is very contrary in daily use.  Sometimes you point intuitively and the next time you have to aim way off to the left/right/up/down.  They have a Roku connected, and if the TV gets on the wrong input they have difficulty getting it back even after removing all inactive inputs, because you can't disable them all, so there is always at least 1 other input besides the hdmi for the Roku.  The TV works great, but consider your audience for ease of use.

My sons each have TCL Roku TVs.  They are dead simple to use, and inexpensive by comparison.  Would definitely consider another one.  Picture quality and features are quite good.

Little late to the party as I see you have already pulled the trigger, but I don’t think you will regret the decision.    I bought a 55” LG OLED curved screen a few years ago and have had no problems with it, it has a great picture.    I don’t use any of the smart features or the speakers as I basically use it as a monitor so I can’t add any insight on those features.  It is my first LG, but based on my experience I would not hesitate to buy another.

Although I have not received our new TV as of yet.  I am learning that buying a 4K tv with Dolby atmos etc is like buying a new computer that requires replacement of old software.  For instance not any sound bar will work with dolby atmos to get the best effect. It must be one that is rated for it (ie 5-1-2 or something like that).  Also if you have an old Blueray player that also must be replaced if you want to watch 4k movies on it.  The same is true with your Apple TV if you want to stream 4k movies you must have the new apple tv.  Not sure what I will replace other then getting a new sound bar as prime and netflix have 4 k movies.  Also you must have high speed internet which I already have to get the best picture.  also for the most part tv stations broadcast in 4k.

We pulled the plug and purchased the LG OLED 65E8PUA TV and was delivered this week.  I must say I am very impressed with the picture quality both in 4K and in HD.  It is a definite improvement over our old one.  Our older TV was HD and although the picture was good the new LG certainly improves upon HD picture significantly.  As to 4K movies vs HD movies; there is just is no comparison.   The colors are rich and vibrant and the depth of field is phenomenal.  My wife says it is like being in the theater.

Regarding the TV sound.  It comes with it own speakers and yes they are adequate but IMO does not do the 4K movies justice as you cannot get the benefit of Dolby Atmos.  So we purchased the LG SK10Y speakers and the difference is night and day.  They truly add to the movie like atmosphere when watching movies whether they be in HD or 4K.

I must admit it has been awhile since we bought a new TV and I was certainly not expecting all of the upgrades needed especially if you want to watch 4K movies and shows.  Along with the speakers we also bought new HDMI cables that support 4K, upgraded our Netflix two premium in order to watch their 4k offerings and even a new Apple TV.  IMO you do not need the new Apple TV4K as the TV comes loaded with many apps and in fact on the Smart Remote there is a separate key for Netflix and Amazon Prime.  I only upgraded my Apple TV because I like the movies Apple offers in 4K.

The TV comes with its own smart remote which is very intuitive and has replaced a few of our remotes( top box remote and the remote that came with the SK10 Y Soundbar system), however, it cannot replace the Apple remote or at least I have yet to find a work around.

One might think a 65 inch TV is big and it is.  So you may think you cannot sit that close to it, however that is not the case.  We sit approximately 8 feet from the screen and it has not posed a problem.

I believe the new 2019 TV’s have been released so the price on 2018’s are dropping.  In fact the price of the one we purchased dropped $500.00 two days after we ordered ours.  I want back and they honored the new price.

The bottom line for us is that to date we have not been disappointed with our new TV.

Glad to hear.  I'm looking into buying another LG monitor for my home office to upgrade from 34" to 43".
