Dogs Are Pretty Clever!!!
« on: July 23, 2019, 06:54:22 PM »

For the last five years or so, the campus of Colombia's Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare has been home to a sweet black dog named Negro. There, he serves as a guardian of sorts, keeping watch over things as students go about their studies.

In return, Negro is cared for by the school's faculty, who provide him with food, water, attention and a safe place with them to pass the night. But the dog has apparently decided that anything beyond that is up to him.

Early on in Negro's tenure at the school, he came to be aware of the little store on campus where students gather to buy things on their breaks; sometimes they'd buy him cookies sold there. "He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange," teacher Angela Garcia Bernal told The Dodo. "Then one day, spontaneous, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie."
As you might expect, after the dog realized his money literally grows on trees, it's been a regular thing.

"He comes for cookies every day," Gladys Barreto, a longtime store attendant, told The Dodo. "He always pays with a leaf. It is his daily purchase."

He's smarter than I am. I pay with money..I know what you mean by smart. Our last dog, a red tick/beagle was phenomenal. His vision was extraordinary. He would watch TV and see the finest detail.. Loved furniture. The wife would place pillows on the couch to keep him off - didn't work. Howard, yes Howard the hound, would gently pull the pillows off and up he went onto a most  comfortable spot..The same goes for our bed..If we were going to bed, Howard would hear us coming. We knew he was on the bed as we heard a thump as he launched onto the floor. There was a warm indented spot where had been lying...An other time Howard was prevented from leaving a room by our red tick hound, Shadow (Shadow was the boss). Howard figured it out . He crawled under the bed to by-pass Shadow in a flash..Howard loved children and other dogs..If Howard got away, we would listen for children's voices. 99% of the time he would be found with them..He was so smart in so many ways it was hard to believe..I have been around dogs all my life and Howard was by far, above and beyond..Such a good dog!

They truly are Mans best friends. Some of the things we have seen through the years as life long dog owners solidifies that, at least in our observation. Our new addition has left us no doubt about the intelligence they possess. Every breed is, or can be so creative and focused on the task at hand that they were, however long ago bred to do. Given a job, The right environment, proper guidance, training and opportunities allows us to witness their intelligence and willingness to just get it done.

It looks like he should owe them a few more leafs for the damage his claws have done to the front of the counter at the store . :)
