2019 Logging & Firewood Season
« on: December 28, 2019, 04:02:47 PM »

It has been a very bad logging and firewood season in 2019 for us.  Very wet fall, winter and spring, so no where near the amount trees taken down and split.  So right now, we are almost out of seasoned wood and will probably be scrambling in about 2 weeks to find bits and pieces of dry wood to make it through.

So, this has been incentive to get us started on next year's supply.  We have had a several day period of dry, relatively warm weather.  Bent had previously brought down some trees, brought them up, and cut into rounds.  So we have spent those good weather days splitting.  I think we have 3 cords at least.  So. we wil end 2019 strong and hopefully get a good start on 2020.

The wood in that first pic would make a wonderful bonfire...  As for Sig. He looks serious. Such a good looking dog!

I hope we are at more then 3 cords.  If I had to guesstimate, I would say 6-7 right now, but ultra green, not sure 11 months even split will season hardwood.  The area for piling it is an irregular shape, starts at a width of about 16 feet and tapers down to 12 at the other end.  But it is about 40 feet long.  The highest point is about 5 feet.  Cant keep it that high all the way through out that width, but if we get close to five feet for that entire 40 feet, I hope to have somewhere between 12-14 cords.  And I hope for the 1st time since we have lived here will have more then needed to get through one winter.  An more importantly, will for once, have seasoned wood to burn and have a real fire.

The rounds in the bucket, probably 100, maybe 125 lbs.  I never though I would be the guy that said this, but I could have lifter them from the ground 20 years ago.  I tried a few and they felt like they are 200 lbs.  I can't imagine having my back feel like it does right now, having a spa, and saying, naw, I am tired of it.  But time will tell.

I think he takes his supervising responsibilities seriously! :pig:  Probably more like unhappy.  When we are working and can't keep an eye on him, he has to go on a lead fastened to the golf cart so I know where he is!
