Austin XL won’t start... HELP!!!
« on: March 22, 2020, 10:41:07 PM »

So I was sold an Austin XL for $50 because it’s previous owner had a big flare up and since the flare up the control board just reads Err when turned on... could it be that this flare up destroyed the grill entirely? Where can I buy parts? There’s no warranty I’m aware of thus I’m stuck with the repair,YAY! PLEASE HELP!

I would start with re-mounting the temp probe.

Looks like you have a Project on your hands! ;) Looks like someone has also taken the firebox apart. I'm assuming the igniter has been taken out or replaced. If not, the wiring to it has probably been burned up. RTD(temp probe on the side)needs to be replaced, too. If you haven't already, take the bottom plate off under the hopper, and see if the fire reached the wires underneath. That's where the RTD and and igniter are hooked up, anyway.

pellet-stove-parts-4less has all the parts you need.

Good luck; for a total of $100 invested(if the fire didn't reach the electronics underneath), you could have a nice large smoker that will serve you well for years!

First + foremost: Welcome to Pellet Fan and the good luck finding your pit.

The "ERR" code is the RTD not making the connection it requires/open circuit..The causes - the connection(s) are loose or the RTD circuit itself is open, as in a cut wire or burnt thru internals of the RTD itself.

If you have an ohmmeter the RTD can be checked for continuity to see if the circuit is open or not, and shorting to ground. If the fire was contained to the burn barrel there is a good chance the RTD is the

culpert. RTD's are not $.. You may also wish to download the manual from Pit Boss, it has the error codes in it.

Let us know how it goes please.

Welcome to Pellet Fan!  The RTD has to have a good clean ground too.  If not, you''ll have crazy temp swings and/or the ERR code.  My brother learned that on his Members Mark from Sam's.  After he cleaned off the powder coat where it grounds, it holds within a few degrees and that's really good for cheap Traeger knockoff.  That may be why my Traeger had the temp swings before I replaced the controller.  It was already put together when I got it and I didn't know to check the ground.  It wasn't screwed down tight.  :2cents:
