is there a recommended height for the chimney cap (other than what came right out of the box)??
Question is in regards to a Daniel Boone Prime

 The chimney cap's sole purpose is to prevent  rain/snow from entering the pit. The higher the better.  Too low could restrict air flow that can impact the combustion process. A general rule of thumb is a two

 finger gap. That is, two fingers should fit between the top of the chimney and the bottom of the cap. That would be ~ 1 1/2" minimum.

Totally Agree with Canadian John.  Your pit is a fan forced induction system, it needs enough air flow for proper combustion. Usually fully open when operating, can close when not operating to keep out rain if left outside in the weather.  A majority of pits today do not even have a rain cap..

I've extended the chimney with a 1,5 meter pipe, so it blows the smoke over the heads of my neighbors and that improved the stability and smoke output drastically. Great pit became greater because of it!

I took mine off and I will put it back on if it is raining.
