Smoking to Airfryer?
« on: December 26, 2021, 04:28:22 PM »

We purchased an air fryer a couple weeks ago. What a handy tool to add to our cooking arsenal.
Has anyone ever taken some cut up chicken fryers, Smoked them & finished them off in the air fryer? Did it still come out crisp & juicy? Time & temps?

Has anyone ever done the same with Pork Chops? Pork steaks?

I would love to see if this idea would work with chicken wings.

I have done it with chicken legs, I smoked for a while not sure how long, I do remember the temps were 160ish when I took them out, then finished them in the AF at 385-400.

Have also done it with country style ribs cut from Butt. They come out nice the fats and outside crisp up nice with the sugar in the rubs.

In the same area, I will smoke CS ribs or chunks of chuck roast for a bit and finish in the instant pot. If I am going to do that I will usually smoke in a pan so I have the juices for in the pot to build pressure.

My Anova steam oven has an air fry function, but I have not tried chicken yet.

How is that working for you? Was it worth the cost?

I have a breville smart oven, quite a few years old, gets used a lot. the convection fan has been making noise for a while now, and figuring it is just going to stop one day. New they are 300-400 so not that far from the Anova.

The Anova has met an in some cases exceeded my expectations. you have total control of both temp. and humidity. The temperatures are very accurate. It has a temperature probe to monitor progress. So far the only problem that I have with it is that it does not turn off when set temperature is reached. It does a great job of baking and sous vide without the bag.  It heats from either the op, bottom or side, and in some cases more than one source.
