Cleaning pads for RTDs
« on: May 15, 2023, 03:11:13 PM »

Was at ThermoWorks site the other day and found "Probe Wipes".
They are in little packets  like the hand wipes.
Don't know it they are any different than the hand wipes, but thought I'd give them a try as they are cheap - $2.50/100.
Scheduled to arrive Thursday.
Will see how they work on the RTD.
Don't see the need for them on a regular probe, since cleaning them is easy.

Should have asked about them earlier and I would have told you not to waste your money.  If you don't use them quickly, the liquid dries in them.  I have a ton of them to throw out.  Thanks for reminding me to do that.

I really like the Clorox brand ones that have the grit on the material.  It helps to clean those probes quicker.

Only $2,50 so wasn't too concerned.
Guess I'll have to find other uses or them.  Prop up a wobbly table. Haha

I "may" have come up with an idea (a rare occasion I know) of how to prevent these cleaning pads from drying.
Vacuum seal them is qty 10.
Hopefully that should keep the air from drying them out.

The ones that I had were in a container and not individually sealed.

Oh yeah, those will definitely dry out.
I've had those dry wipes (sealed) for hands and threw some in the car.
When I went to use them, they were dried out.

Take all of the wipes out of the original container and put them in a jar with lids that snap tight with wire closures.  They stay moist for a long time.  Screw lids don't work nearly as well.

The ones that I bought came individually wrapped. They work ok for probes but the exposed RTD, not so much. The grill brush below works well for me. The Traeger RTD sticks up in the back of the grill and is hard to reach.

The RTD in my CampChef is hard to reach as well. It is on the side and behind the rails for the grates.

I just use a scotch pad, I usually have red ones laying around.

Thermostat probes get the blue sponges used that has the rough side and the soft side.
