 This doesn't apply to an all stainless pit that may tarnish, stain, or pit..

 There have been posts about rust due to finishes burning, separating, being scratched or dented, be it powder coat, paint, or porcelain.

 If your pit has rust are you concerned ?

 If concerned, how have, or how will you be dealing with it ?

Performance and longevity wise, no.  If it gets real bad, and that usually takes about 4 yeas.  I will touch it up, usually if we are going to a competition.

I bought a used Blzn Grand Slam that is rusting on the exterior back and exhaust side.  I am not worried about it as it is on the exterior and does not impact the cook.  I believe it was caused by salt water air as prior owner lived near Atlantic City, NJ.  I have no intentions to do anything about it.  I suspect it will be quite some time before it would rust all of the way through.  I got a great deal on it and will only put money and effort into it that makes the grill more useful to me.

My GMG is a little rusty on the bottom around the fire pot.  Nothing major.  It's a 2011 model and I got a great deal on it second hand, but I'm not too concerned about it right now.  I might spruce it up this summer if I run out of honey-do's.

Now that I have a MAK 2 Star, I no longer have to even think about the possibility of rust. Prior to that, I had a MAK 1 Star. Although the 1 Star is not stainless, is does have aluminized steel under the powder coating. It was awesome! Even with the chips and scratches that are common on outdoor cooking equipment, never once did I have a spot of rust... and that was with little spots of completely exposed aluminized steel.

I had a GMG JB that started to rust after 6 months. They replaced it. And the new JB (2011 model)is stored covered outdoors still looks pretty good for its age. It hardly gets used.

The DC is starting to show its age (9/2013 bought 4/2014) Starting to see small bit of rust. After the fire I now have a multi colored stainless lid, Honestly with this one, Its been such a trouble free LiL workhorse, I'm just gonna let it age gracefully! If it ever wears out I'll just buy another.

Is my powder coated Memphis Pro rusted? Yes
Is it a problem? No

Some rusting on the front. If it gets too bad, will wire brush and use high heat resistant spray paint on it.
