Finally made it to Restaurant Depot in MN
« on: May 18, 2018, 05:09:28 PM »

I went to the Brooklyn Park location over lunch.  Quite an experience.  Lots of forklifts on the move and workers stocking the shelves.  I didn't have much time and didn't bring a cooler so I just bought a few reasonable sized sauces and spices.

Anybody know what a "heavy brisket" is?

Yes that is how they are labelled in my RD and yes they are untrimmed. I'm a huge RD fan, this is where I get the majority of my meats. Also check out their pots and pans.

Ironically I stopped by the one in Portland yesterday. They do offer a one time, one day pass to non business shoppers. The prices for Boston butts was $1.72 LB. Good thing I was pressed for time or I could have helped their bottom line by a good amount. Neat store if you like that kind of thing.

I wondered the same thing about the "nose-removed" brisket I saw at the Indy store.

It may be having the deckle fat removed.  With the fat side down, the deckle is on top of the point.  It kinda sticks out like a nose.  HEB has them labeled as "deckle fat removed".  I had no clue what it was and asked one of the butchers and he explained it.  According to him, that's the best one to get for the price.
