Not Your Grandmother's Coleslaw
« on: June 29, 2018, 09:03:08 PM »

....but it is my grandmother's coleslaw. :D

This coleslaw is going to be different than you are used to, but it is so yummy.  I love it on sandwiches after Thanksgiving.

4 bags fresh express angel hair coleslaw
1 medium onion sliced very fine (like the coleslaw)
1 cup vegetable oil (can use less if you choose)
2 cups vinegar
2 cups sugar (I use granulated splenda which should match sugar cup for cup)
2 tablespoons white pepper (start with one, then add to taste)

Mix all ingredients in a bowl, then cover and let sit in fridge overnight.

I like coleslaw, but I am picky when it comes to it, the GF laughs at me when we are out and I ask about their coleslaw being good, of course they alway answer yes and they most all of them will offer to bring me a sample to decide. I have the same issues with macaroni salad and potato salad.

I may scale you recipe back some because I am the only one here that would eat it, and give it a go.

Thanks for sharing.

I would start with minimal sugar and sweeten to taste. The sweetness is the hardest part to get right.

I love this style of slaw. Kinda like the slaw they put on those famous sandwiches at Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh.
