Thanks for the replies. To be more clear, I'm wondering about add/pop blockers.

I have Windows 7 and IE7. I don't think malware is an issue as my 'security essentials' catches most of it.

My issue is all of the adds on most sites. If I'm on an 'add heavy' site, and click on another 'add heavy' site, my pc goes into freeze mode.

"The ads Ma'am, just the ads"...

Just a 'Heads up'  Windows 7 is 'going out of support' soon from Microsoft. as in.. put out to pasture, kicked to the curb etc..Like Windows 98 and XP was earlier.

Would recommend Replacing IE with another browser, like Firefox ( https://firefox.com ) or Chrome ( https://google.com/chrome ) and then add an ad blocking extension like U-Block origin or ad-block plus to the browser of your choice. These browsers are current and updated frequently with security patches.

Not sure to what level / experience level but I did this....

It runs on a Raspberry Pi computer, sets on my network wired to the first router on my system and I get zero advertising / adds.  I just reset the log files so I can't show much until I get some new data but on average 20 - 25 % of the network traffic is adds !!!  If you setup your own home network, you can add this. documented very well !! You can't believe the difference !!
