Do You Cook More When it is Cold Outside?
« on: November 15, 2018, 10:15:12 AM »

I feel like we cook more when it is cold outside -- especially bake more.  But we use the Memphis Pro less because even with a covered patio it is just cold and sometimes nasty to cook outside.

I just don't have a good spot to set mine up outside in the winter. If I had something that was closed or semi closed I would use it just as much through the winter. For smoked goodness in the winter I use my small cookshack electric set up under a range hood that is ducted outside.

Day in and day out I am less inclined to go outside and do a small cook for a meal. However, I am more apt to cook in the cold or come what may, if i have a "project" like jerkey or a big meal like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Those are the times when I get psyched up for a challenge and it doesn't matter what's happening outside; the cook must go on!!

I have a covered patio, under which my cookers sit.  This keeps the rain and snow off your head, but doesn't make it any warmer to stand out by them.  Still both units will get used regularly, with the pellet grill at least once or twice a week, and the FEC-100 maybe a couple times a month during the cold.

I love Fall, Winter, and only part of Spring.  The heat and humidity drive me inside from May - August.  The majority of my cooking is outside on the smokers or charcoal, so it increases exponentially when it gets colder outside.

It does get cold in NC (well to me it does) and I still fire up the smoker. After I put on the food I go back inside  ;D

Last night the temp was right at 32, it was snowing, not all the leaves have dropped off my maple trees in the back so red and gold leaves to look at... and the PG500 was humming along cooking dinner.  It was kinda nice and enjoyable out actually.

I can understand that, my previous home was in the middle of no where, and it was nice to just sit out and enjoy the quiet. Even if I had to brush the snow off the swing at times.

I cook year around here in AZ. I have a covered outdoor kitchen so weather is never a factor, maybe...
