Just picked up one last night at a Krogers here in IN.  A buddy of mine called me and told me about the sale, said his Kroger was out of them, mine had about 6.   We just got half a beef a couple months ago but didn't get any brisket cut (didn't have my smoker then).  They had pork butts on sale last week for .99 a pound.  Might have to stop getting stuff butchered and start buying sales if they keep this up.

Same with my two.  The flats were quite thick and overall very flexible.  The 18lb I cooked so far turned out very juicy and tasty.  I did trim 4.3lbs of fat off of it.

I also picked up two 17.5# USDA choice packers at Fry's for $1.77/#. The vacuum packages are stamped "Swift"

I have never seen brisket at my local FM for less than $7.99/lb, nor butts for less than $3.99/lb.  :'(

If I could get brisket for less than 3 bucks, I'd buy a 100 lbs and a meat grinder.

That is unfortunate.  I do not see prices as good as some posted here but they are much better than your unfortunate experiences.

I believe Swift is the name of the meat packaging company.  I have had good experience with them in the past.

I went shopping at Win Co for ham hocs and noticed that they had good looking USDA "Choice or Better" (that is what was printed on the store label, not stamped on the vacuum package) packers for $1.65/lb. Not that I needed another one, but I just could not pass them up, picked up another 17 pounder for the freezer.   :-[
