Do you all feel your top 5 favorite bbq restaurants dont use liquid smoke. Im on the fence post and not sure.

I don't have a top 5 because I think I make better than I can buy usually.  I don't recall any BBQ place that I liked where I felt that they used liquid smoke.  I only use it in baked beans and sometimes in a jerky marinade.

Applebees used to use liquid smoke in their riblets. Best as I recall(this was 25 years ago) the riblets were browned a little on the grill, then placed in a pan with a raised grate on the bottom, where a liquid smoke/water mix was poured in the bottom. The pan was sealed with foil and placed in an oven at 250? for several hours, then refrigerated until an order comes. When ordered, it's simply reheated on the grill, then has BBQ sauce on it, and served.

Like I said, this was 25 years ago, so they may not do it this way now. Regardless, I think I stepped foot in an Applebees twice since I quit there in '95...... ;)

All I know is 25 years ago, I loved Applebees AYCE riblets and fries, and I really enjoyed Tony Roma's ribs (I think the 1st time I had them was Honolulu in 1994).  I don't remember the last time I was in an Applebees, maybe 1997, and Tony Roma's 2003...I would venture to guess I would still love both!  Good is good!

I used to love those all you could eat riblets in the mid 90s too.  And, I had Tony Roma's in HI in 2005.
