Grilled Salads
« on: July 31, 2019, 04:21:46 PM »

Here's a grilled romaine Caesar that we make.

Grilled Caesar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 garlic clove, peeled, minced
½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 anchovy fillets, rinsed
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
¼ cup olive oil
3 romaine lettuce hearts (18 ounces), rinsed, patted dry, halved lengthwise through cores

Directions
Prepare a charcoal grill or preheat a gas grill to medium-high heat.
To prepare the dressing: Combine lemon juice and garlic in bowl, and let stand for 10 minutes. In a blender or food processor, place the mayonnaise, Parmesan, lemon-garlic mixture, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, anchovies, salt and pepper. Blend or process for about 30 seconds. With blender running, slowly add oil. Reserve 6 tablespoons dressing for brushing romaine.
When the grill is ready, oil the grate, and cover grill for about 5 minutes.
Brush cut sides of romaine with reserved dressing; place romaine, cut side down, on grill over direct heat. Grill, uncovered, until lightly charred, 1 to 2 minutes. Drizzle romaine with remaining dressing. Sprinkle with Parmesan and serve.

That sounds really good!

we're pretty well in hijack territory on an awesome wing thread.

Grilled Romaine, liberal amounts of kosher salt, course ground pepper, olive oil.  Then bottled Cesar dressing, but topped with a sunny side up egg.  Actually copied this from a local restaurant special.  No reason to spend $12 on a $2 dish (steak and wine not included).

All part of the plan to get the pageview count up.  If everyone knows they have to read every thread regardless of content, Bentley and Kristin get more ad revenue!   ;)

I gotta tell ya', if a few years ago you had said to me, "We're gonna' grill some lettuce until it's starting to char, then we'll put a sunny side up egg on top.  That'll be our salad."  I would have said, "Not me!"

But I trust the members here.  So I'm all in.  I'll report back.

I first grilled romaine a couple of months ago for the family after seeing it as a suggestion on the package of romaine hearts.     Instantly a favorite of the family, we just use jarred Caesar dressing and put the shave Parmesan on while it still on the grill.   Delicious.

So I am going to assume those that have posted on here about making it like a Wilted Spinach Salad?

There is still some structure to the romaine, so no, I would not compare it with wilted spinach salad

Not comparing it, asking if it is liked and eaten.
