New Year's Day dinner
« on: December 30, 2019, 11:32:32 AM »

Wonder what folks are making for New Year Day?  I am moving away from prime rib this year and going with BBQ baby backs, Korean wings, rice made in my new rice cooker, bake beans, cornbread with cheese and jalapeno peppers and for desert a pumpkin cheesecake.

Might do some smoked salmon, but for snaking.

I've had a 16 lb. brisket thawing in the casita refrigerator for the last two days. If its thawed enough to trim, I'll trim it and it will be ready for New Years day. Otherwise, it'll be baby back ribs.

Hmmm - don't know what is wrong and why the pic is upside down.  I've deleted it and rotated the saved copy but every time I Save it with the attachments link, it still comes upside down.

I have Moderator privileges (but little skill).  I spun your photograph but couldn't figure out how to delete the original.  (Little skill.)

We always have the finger food extravanganza on New Year's Day while watching as many college football games as we can stand.  This year:  nachos with guac, sour cream and salsa;  tempura shrimp (from Costco -- they may be worth dis-inviting the rest of the family so that I can have them all); taquitos; steamed dumplings; spring rolls; and chicken wings.

There is something about those shrimp from Costco, man they are good.  Long and straight, not sure how they do it, but boy are they fantastic!

We will have our traditional black eyes peas and cabbage.  We do cabbage being it is hard to find good collard greens.

A while back I was given some alligator tail meat and put it in the freezer. I was thinking it might be fun to do something with it for New Years. After spending lots of time thinking about the best way to prepare it, the answer was so obvious that I don't know why I didn't think of it before.

The best way to cook alligator would be in a "CROC" pot!!!  ::)

Hello,

For dinner on New Years Day we had some different chicken breasts.  I've never seen these before, but my wife was able to bring them home from her work.  These are double chicken breasts.  The wings, thighs, and legs are removed, but the breast bones are still there.  I just used a simple rub, and set the Firecraft to 275 until the internal temperature was 160.

They were pretty good, but if I get my hands on these another time I might get a bit more creative.
