I read that propane torches shouldn't be used, that it's likely to leave a taste.  Evidently Butane is preferred.  I didn't taste anything "off" about the propane Searzall.

If you can find it, MAPP gas from Linde burns almost as hot as acetylene. Linde shut down the MAPP gas factory, so it would need to be a left over cylinder.

BLUEFIRE Modern MAPP is the closest still being manufactured.

They come in what you would normally find propane in.

NOTE:   Do not use it with a Searsall as it burns hot enough to melt the wire screen.

Normally I smoke, SV then sear, but lately, if the meat has a lot of internal fat, I've been SV at low temperature then smoke/sear. SV does not render fat at low temperature, it does a great job of dissolving the connective tissue but does not do much for fat.

I bought this one at harbor frieght. A lot of folks seem to like it and it is only $20. Thought I would give it a try.

That is a sear-ious torch, much more than what I have.   Interested to hear your results.

Sure I'll let you know how it works. There are several youtube videos about this torch. The guy in the picture has tested this torch against 10 or 12 other popular searing methods and devices. He posts on youtube as "sous vide everything. If you Google " sous vive flamethrower"  you will find him easily.  He even had people blind tasting the results. This Harbor Frieght torch came out the winner.

Here is a video of me searing steaks with the weed burner:

Here is a picture of them seared and plated:
