Bacon-beef bones and bird feet.
« on: September 26, 2020, 04:56:49 PM »

Weather was fantastic today and going to get cold next few weeks, so we took a little ride. Grabbed 43#’s of pork belly, snack sticks, bird feet and beef bones. Perfect temps  for smoking bacon.

What do you intend to do with the birds feet and beef bones?

Both of them are “snack-ems” for our dogs. Got 14#’s of meat for jerky also. Long 4 days.

I thought chicken bones weren't good for dogs as they splinter.

Wild dogs eat plenty of bird bones.  Quite a lot of people feed their domestic dogs raw meat, usually chicken.

The splinter problem comes in when the bird is cooked.  Cooked bird bones splinter.

Frozen and uncooked are great for them. We have asked everyone one we know that we are comfortable trusting, including our 2 vets. Google frozen versus cooked. Same with beef bones. We also give them frozen chicken legs as a weekend snack. We have done this for years, not advocating, just sharing.

If your dog went to the grocery store for food, it wouldn't go to the dog food isle.  It'd head directly to the meat department.

When wolves eat their kills they eat the entrails and internal organs first.  They get a vegetable supply from it.

+1 on the vegetables for domestic dogs.  You may want to consider salt free vegetables if buying canned.

When we were hunting on a ranch where the livestock were being fed turnips, my dogs chowed down on them with the Angus.

We do scour for salt free, often have to settle for no salt added. Very conscious about that.
Never fed them turnips but they would love them I am sure. They go crazy for apples and raw carrots. Green beans.....man that door.
