A used copy of that book sells for $63+ on Amazon. Must be good.  :o

Shelly was an inspiration.   His photography, his love story, and wow he made making Lox easy!

So yeah, a few characters missed from the old site, but we've got a good thing going here.

I remember when he burned down his cooking deck and shed. Doh!

I, too, thought that Shelly’s posts were works of art.  Over the years, from PMs and emails, I discovered–
  • He operated a business, Edible Landscapes, where he advised people on landscaping with edible plants.
  • He and Alice operated a restaurant in Carmel, CA for 13 years.
  • He wrote a column for the Monterey, CA newspaper.
I seem to recall that a year or more ago I discovered that he was deceased.  I can’t confirm that now so I may be wrong.  I’ve recently searched various obituary sites on Sheldon and Shelly Schachter and also on his wife, Alice (Kinsler) Schachter.  I haven’t found a match.

I also remember his hand written menus with great art and doodles. He also introduced me to sous vide if I recall correctly
