Hotness Scale Poll (see topic "Hotness Scale")

If you don't understand the poll, please read the topic "Hotness Scale" before voting.  1 is no heat (a cracker) and 10 is blow your head off.

Yrs ago, it would be like drinking water. Since I had gastric bypass 10 yrs ago, a stick of big red gum is too hot.. ???.
So my vote it 10 +++.  Lol

I voted 6. My personal benchmark is putting a dab on my tongue by itself. I can dab Siracha without immediately reaching for a drink. I would call that average/above average hot. 7 through 10 would be reserved for things that I'm immediately reaching for a drink, and how long the sting lasts after the drink. I have a pretty high tolerance for Heat

Obviously, this is why it's hard to get a heat consensus....lots of different answers.

So the people saying 2, there isn't anything less spicy than Siracha to you? If a cracker is 1, it seems like there would be some room for things like black pepper, chili powder etc before you get to Siracha?

This is why I handle the seasoning for family cooks and also for competition cooks.  I have learned from painful experience -- Bent: "Try this, it has no heat at all none.  You will like it."  Kristin: "Ahhhhhh" as she runs screaming around looking for milk.

I guess there is lots of things less spicy, but if I listed many things less spicy it would put siracha towards the top of the list for heat. I guess I should have said in my household siracha is a 2

If I may interject...

To me, there are different 'kinds' of hot, and they have differing qualities. Wasabi being a good example.

While peppers can bring my mouth to a boil and make my eyes water, wasabi does that quite well to. It also lights up my nose as well while peppers don't seem to. Sure, my nose will run under peppers, but the lack of burn just isn't there like it is with wasabi.

75%+ feel it is a 5 or above so you are slowly defining it!  At least in the 1st 45 days of this site...18 is a fairly huge sampling is it not?

I like super hot every once in awhile, usually just to see how ridicules it is, not for food...so 7-10, I really have no need for.  It does not enhance my eating experience and I am happy with how far I can pee outside!
