Teen Sunday School Christmas Party tonight
« on: December 09, 2023, 01:42:48 PM »

Final prep underway for the Jr./Sr. High Sunday School Party tonight.

Kids requested a hamburger bar with numerous toppings, tater tots and mac-n-cheese (with bacon bits on the side!). Burger Toppings include cheese, bacon, sautéed onions, sliced fresh onions, sautéed mushroom, tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, mayo and relish. Have cooked the 3 lbs of bacon and sautéing the onions now.  Bent has sliced tomatoes and chiffonade the lettuce. I will make the mac-n-cheese in a bit.  Bent is manning the kitchen and cooking the burgers and tater tots , making sure the toppings are hot (or cold), monitoring keeping dishes full and has the unpleasant job of kitchen clean-up. His help is always so appreciated.

After dinner there will be some games, then a "scavenger hunt" through the downtown of Culpeper, back to make Christmas ornaments, more games and a silly string fight. There are small prizes for the winners to choose from and put in their goody bag. The night will end with cake and ice cream and a trip to the candy buffet, a big favorite of the teens. and various adults are coming at 4 pm to help with set-up and then some to act as "chaperones" during the scavenger hunt -- the adults of the church are very supportive of our small group of young people.

I hope to post photos after the event.

Sounds like a very noble effort, I'm sure that the participants will enjoy and appreciate it.

What fun for the kids.  Work for the adults involved but I know it's done with a smile.

My exact sentiments.  Wish someone like you two were around for my Jr/Sr party.  The burger bar sounds like something I could get into with gusto.

Well, Christmas Party 2023 is in the books.  I am a bit worn out this morning, but I think a good time was had by all. Bentley cooked a perfect burger. One of the members donated an absolutely beautiful cake.  Games were played, silly string fights were had and they got to stuff their goody bags with as much candy as they could carry.

I think George Bernard Shaw meant something a little different and even derogatory when he said that..."youth is wasted on the young".  But I kind of get it now that I am much older and my back hurts from cooking a few burgers and fries!
