Ghost Peppers and what to do with them?
« on: October 31, 2024, 12:24:33 PM »

We had are 1st hard frost and the garden is done, so I am trying to put it to bed for the Winter.  Right is almost mature bhüt jolokia, they should be Fire Engine red.  Left is not so mature.  I was just gonna blow off the green as I did not want to confuse them with other green chili's.  But I have decided to make a hot sauce and give to friends.  The almost mature on right...no idea what to do with them!

I would put them in the sauce too unless you find another use for them.  The color combination would be interesting.

Dehydrate and grind into powder to use vary sparingly in anything you use it in.  Be very careful with the smoke and the fine powder in the air when you grind.  Probably a great idea to have on gloves, protective eyewear, and maybe some sort of covid type mask when messing with those peppers.

I have been told I am never allowed to make the hot sauce in the house again! My hands feel like I have been working with concrete all day with no gloves!

If you grind it into powder do it outside and let the coffee grinder sit for a good while before you open it.  Otherwise you might get to find out what pepper spray feels like.  I've been pepper sprayed and tased.  I'll take the taser any day of the week over pepper spray.  It's a long five seconds but then it's over.  The spray lingers for several hours.

If I wanted to carry them on my duty belt then I had to go through the training.  Never had to use one either one to give someone else the lesson.  Luckily I guess.  There were a few times one of the agents had to spray some knot head and the whole station got to enjoy it through the A/C system.  And the transport unit couldn't be used for a while.  It was some potent stuff.
