I have the OXO scale, bought it quite a few years ago, maybe 10 years?  Anway, I don't remember it being $50, but it works great, never have had any problems with it.  Checked it with a 100g calibration weight, it was spot on even after all that time.  I highly recommend as a BIFL (Buy It For Life) item.

For smaller items, I got this which is accurate to 0.01g.  You definitely want to get one with a calibration weight since you're dealing with such tiny weights.  Air currents can change the weight.  Super handy when developing sausage recipes as I can weigh out the ingredients for a single patty to test.  :)
