    • A Vermont Castings propane grill.  I threw it away because I didn't know it had replaceable components.

That's a serious shame.   I still have my 2004 Vermont Castings grill.   I don't use it anywhere near as much as the Traeger and replacement parts aren't cheap, but it's the best gasser I've ever had by far.

Several off brand propane burners.... junk

Old cast aluminum charcoal grill....incredible.   easy to control temps and cranked out great food.  I salvaged it  from a rental clean up I was helping a friend do.  I bead blasted it and repainted the body.  Powder coated the chassis chrome (I was in the industry).  My parents had a identical grill in the 70's and I was stoked to find it.  Devastated when I knocked it over during mt. biking on by back patio...cracked like an egg.

22" weber...excellent. ...like an idiot I sold it thinking LPG was better

Weber genesis...like using an oven.  Produced uninspiring food.  Not upset when my x-wife wanted it in the divorce.

Char broil offset....truely my first foray into Bbq.  I used it as my only grill for years. I added a trap door to make clean out easy.   Added 6" to the height of the firebox and a custom grate for direct grilling.  Super versatile.   I still have it.

Coldsmoker I built out of my daughters retired dorm fridge.   Hotplate and 15' of dryer vent hose.  I did lox and cheese a few times.  Works well. Still have it.

1/2 dozen or so UDS.  From a basic that I used balls of foil for air control to an automated PID controlled stainless rig (failure).
My favorite was welded to a shopping cart frame.  It also had a cooler that held a keg of homebrew beer.  I cruised the neighborhood handing out ABT's and beer for 4th of July.

Traeger pro 34.  Current. So simple.   Wish I had gone pellet years ago.  Wife got it for me because the drum welded to a shopping cart was too "white trash".  I like the pellet grill more than I ever thought I would.   Easy and works beautifully.  Thinking about adding a propane grill on the side like Camp Chef...just gotta figure the fitment.

Canadian Johns thread about how we got started has alot of stories with the common progression of going down the road of smoking meat. It may be interesting to see what route everyone  has gone over the years. My best recollection of mine would be:

    Charbroil 2 burner grill
    Masterbuilt propane bullet smoker
Chargriller offset with side fire box
Jenn air four burner gas grill with rotisserie
    Traeger lil Tex
    Fast eddy pg500
    Lousiana whole hog pellet
    Wsm 18
    Lang 36 reverse flow offset
    Hunsaker drum smoker
    270 sumo charcoal smoker

That's as many as I can think of in order of purchase. May have forgotten a couple in there somewhere.
    I just ordered a Hunsaker 85....

Congrats. I knew mark was going to start offering the big dogs. That's a giant drum. I've never seen a manufacturer that involves his potential customers in his future offerings quite like Mark.

1994 - Sunbeam propane grill wedding present, it ultimately rusted out after 11 years.
2005 - Vermont Castings propane grill (still have, looks and works great, built like a tank).
    2015 - Daniel Boone

I mostly use the DB, but still pull out the propane for quick things or steaks that I like hot and fast.

Thermos Gas grill is what I started with. (7 years)
Weber Platinum Kettle (5 years ago and still have & use
Weber Gold Kettle (Gave to my Step son)
Weber Silver Genesis (Gave to my brother)
Weber Smokey Joe (Still have & use)
Louisiana LG 900 Pellet Grill (1 1/2 years old and love it)

Wish I would of started grilling earlier in life but at least I got started and really enjoy it.  I love the pellet grill as it is easy to use and I can do long cooks but I still enjoy using my weber kettle grill and the differing flavors it brings over the pellet grill.  The combination of the two seems to be just right for me.

"The Good One" - Mmm, that's a interesting design, pellet grill like that would be even better IMHO...   I'm surprised no one is making one ( that I know of yet )
