What is the coldest most miserable weather you have cooked in?
« on: December 24, 2017, 10:54:30 AM »

For starters: An un announced down pour when I didn't have fort bbq for cover..Fortunately I was cooking on my egg at the time. The dome temp dropped 10º when the rain hit it and I got soaked. The food turned out well. It was Summer time.

Cold: Just can't remember the temperature. No wind just cold to the point my bare hands ached and I dreaded touching anything.  Gloves you say - I do now but find they soil-up and need to be cleaned or exchanged. Certain operations require bare

 hands.

-7 has been my coldest on my Louisiana lg900.  Did a brisket and 2 shoulders.  Covered the smoker with a welding blanket and a wool moving blanket and everything purred right along.  I have smoked a lot in the rain, I took and install conduit hangers in my deck and when the rain starts I drop in a golf umbrella to keep them dry.

Wow, impressive! The coldest it has been for mew is around 35 as I live in Socal. That's about as cold as it gets here where I am.

Couldn't imagine some of the temps mentioned!

Did smoke in the rain, but was not cold though.

the cold doesn't seem to bother the Memphis Pro and its under cover even while cooking.  I'm guessing under 0 is probably when i give up and opt for inside.  The pit is close to the door so if the wind isnt crazy I would probably go lower.  -10 is about the coldest it usually gets here and that is short lived. So for the most part I'm almost always game.  I tend to use it more when its cold vs really hot.  I just finished a quick cook of some  breakfast link sausage and its 18

bucky919 is in North Dakota, a state I love but moved away from 40 years ago.  The odds are he lives in Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck or Minot 'cause they're the largest cities.

If you consider frozen orange juice concentrate to be a citrus grove.

Last night as I was cooking a pork butt on my pit it might have dropped below 50.  :rotf:

This winter weather here in south Orange County is brutal.  ::)

You would be correct with minot.

Denver 1990 -5f.  Grill on the back porch right next to the sliding patio door.  10" of snow piled right there.  Brushed off the grill and cooked something, I forget.

It was so cold there was a lump in my shoe after checking the food on the grill.  I took it out and put it on the counter.  10 minutes later it thawed out and went Pfftpppftpp.  Stunk up the kitchen.

My older brother is always trying to convince folks back in Cal that he moved to a cold winter place when he moved here.  I always respond with "Well we don't live in Minot, ND".  But that's even colder than I thought!!!

Living in Wisconsin I've cooked many times in below 0 temps. Tomorrow will probably be another one. Listening to the grills moan & groan in the startup makes you wonder if their gonna make it. They always do.
