Our temps have been about 20 degrees lower than average -- overnight from 12 to 16 and daytime 26 to 30.  A big shock from what we have experienced the last 4 winters here. And even bigger shock from So Cal.  What do you all do when it is so cold?  I just can't take being outside.  Bent tends to bake -- bread, biscuits, cinnamon rolls.  Today I was also baking for the Bingo tonight at the Fire Dept -- homemade banana pudding, Devil's Food Cake and Coconut Cake.  Serving -- $1.50

Just past noon here & its still -6 outside. I have a 1.4 lb marinated chicken breast for dinner that I normally do outside on the DC. Seriously thinking of just cooking it in the house oven today.

I admit to being a cold weather wimp-its 36 here in RVA and I just cannot bring myself to go outside and cook on the grill.   I think baking sounds good and I think I will try to make some biscuits using the Southern Biscuit mix Bentley recommended.  There is plenty of leftover turkey from one I smoked on Wednesday and leftover collard greens I made yesterday.

I just threw some chicken fingers in the toaster oven.  No cooking outside for me when it is cold.

I dialed the thermostat up, have been reading, fired up the sous vide machine, and poured a glass of wine. It's cold but all is well up here.

Was going to smoke a pork roast for Cuban sandwiches.
Not happening, the oven kissed it. If I get any older and colder I don't know what I will do.

What do I do on a frigid day?  I do about the same things I'd do on a warm day.  I just dress for it.

When I was in my 30s I played on an adult amateur hockey team that practiced outdoors at about 7:00 at night, after we got off work.  Some nights it would be 30 or 40 below zero (temperature, not wind chill).  During scrimages, when a group of us sat on the bench there'd be a cloud of steam around us from the sweat.  That experience is common in true hockey country.

Yes, my Mother's people are all turning in their graves at what sissies their relatives have become (my maternal grandmother was born and raised in Valley City, N.D., my great-grandmother was born and raised in Moon Valley, WI, and right before she was born her parents and siblings immigrated from the Gudbrand Valley, Norway).  I attribute my lack of heartiness to my Father's side -- they were Virginians back to the Colonial times and obviously gave me the "need to stay warm inside" genes!!!

Hot and even Arizona hot I'm fine, cold just doesn't work.

Possibility of ice tonight. I spent the day fixing my generator, new battery, rebuilt the carburetor, and new gas, finally it runs correctly again which means we won't have ice or lose power. LOL!!

 Dress accordingly (pmillen).   It is so hard to resist BBQ cooked food.   Abstaining for more than a couple of days drives me outside.  The wind is the hardest element to endure. The darkness, even with very good lighting adds to the drudgery.

It boils down to how much do you like the food from your pit.
