I am not sure how common this is across the country but my local Costco (Livermore, CA) carries USDA prime beef in addition to choice.  They have been selling it for maybe five years now.  It's very pricey and most of the fat is trimmed off.  I have never seen prime beef in any local grocery store.

My local store does get an occasional odd item in to see if it will sell.  A few years ago they were selling whole lambs.  They were hung in the freezer cabinets.

I don't have any trouble cruising my local Costco.  Perhaps it is because I am retired and not in a hurry.  What I do notice is that the employees just about bend over backwards to help you.  Extremely fast checkout as well.  Not sure how they incentivise their employees.

Never had any interaction with them except at check out...but I can assure you in the 7-10 different ones I have used over the last 25 years, there sure is never one in the main part of the store to answer any question or direct you to a product!

Might be because we have a "new" store (18 months) that they have a few more employees.

We often have Prime beef in the Minneapolis are Costco locations.  I've seen whole lamb as well.  They had Prime NY steaks for sale around New Years for $10/pound and they were very tasty.

Got my executive reward back and noticed they don't pay on few things like gas and alcoholic beverages...Know if you pay with your Costco visa card you will get the 4% back on gas and 2% on other Costco purchases. I used to pay with debt card but you don't get the % return so started to always pay with Costco visa. We started to use Costco visa instead of the debit card. Just make sure to pay off every month or that +4% will turn into -12.49%.

Lots of Prime meat at our Costco.  However, I have found that their Choice is sometimes as marbled as their Prime. Maybe other criteria apply, but I have not been disappointed with their Choice.  They just have great meat!  And the price is right.

It is interesting to read about the ins and outs of Costco. The organiztion and the quality of goods sound like they are OK. As fate would have it, I was sitting in the local library and a Costco rep happened to stop in out of the blue. She was giving away coupons for a free $10 gift card if you purchase a $60 membership. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around how something can be free if I have to spend $ to get it. However, I still think it might be woth checking it out.

We love Costco and buy a lot of our staple items there.  We also buy a decent amount of our meat there, but not all.

Ours regularly has great prices on USDA Prime beef, prices that I can't really match anywhere else.  For choice, our local Cash and Carry is by far the best when it comes to selection and price.

I would go to the store by you and go to membership counter and ask if you can look around first. I think they let me shop there at least once without buying membership? That was about 25 yrs ago.

Costco employees start at $20 per hour.

It’s not just that. They get full benefits and are treated very well. Costco genuinely cares for their employees

I recently met a guy that worked at their corporate offices.  He started as one of the front end people that helps the cashiers and worked his way up to a management position.  Everyone I have met that works for Costco loves Costco.

I must have a reject Costco near me. I don't go to Costco because the lines are way too long and take too long to checkout. I for the life of me don't understand why my local Costco never have all of the lines open or get some self checkout kiosks. Heck Walmart, Home Depot, Sam's Club, and tons of other Grocery stores have them.

They can get busy here as well depending on the day.  Weekends are almost always a nightmare unless you go right when they open.

Ours gets busy, and the checkout lines can get long, but they tend to move quickly.  For me, the biggest complaint I have when they are busy is the crowds that group around the free samples and black the aisles.  :-)
