For me, the biggest complaint I have when they are busy is the crowds that group around the free samples and black the aisles.  :-)

I frequent two different Costco stores both within 10 miles of my house here in NJ.  Like everyone else has indicated, shopping at Costco should be a mid-week task as the weekends are crazy busy with really crazy shoppers.  Both Costco's sell Choice and Prime, we usually go with the choice as the meat is very good, and most of the time does not seem much different than prime.   One item we buy exclusively at Costco is Lamb, because prices and quality are much better than our local supermarket.

Been Costco members for over 20 years and since the executive membership became available, our rebate every year is at least double the membership cost and usually 3-4 times as much.  Long lines there don't bother me because they move fast due to scanners that work and employees that know their jobs.  $20+/hour gets a better employee than you will ever see at Walmart, where the standard for employment seems to be a pulse.

Some amazing deals can be had there too.  For many years, I  had been intrigued by kamado cookers, but was never going to spend more than $1,000 on a glorified flower pot.   Well, a couple years ago, I was in our Costco and they had a large, good looking kamado for $599.  Figured I'd research it when I got home, which I did, and found positive feedback so I thought I'd take a closer look next visit.  Went back and was checking it out when I looked up to see a $200 discount.  Ended up with a kamado right between a large and XL Big Green Egg for $399, with cart and cover!

When I came back home from Okinawa in 1965, after serving in the Navy Medical Corps (I was assigned to the fleet Marine Corps) I brought home a medium sized green egg.  Not as sophisticated as todays monsters, but it only cost me $35 at the PX.  Living in apartments it was always out on the patio or front porch.  Too heavy to steal. Made lots of steaks, burgers and chickens on that thing.  Left it there when I moved away.  I thought it was a great conversation piece but never dreamed it would become an expensive and popular item.  I personally would not buy one because of the inconvenience of using it.  Lifting the lid is a great body building event, but I do not see anything unique in the way it cooks.  ?  Please enlighten me if I am wrong.   :2cents:

Have about 5 Costco within 20 miles of my home. Now about 2 months ago they opened in South San Francisco they opened a New Type of Costco called "Costco Business Center". Open to Costco Members, but it really is for Restaurants, Tons more meats, whole Pigs, whole lambs, more cheeses, etc. The Walk in Fridge, is about the size of Cash and Cary's whole store, in San Francisco. No Alcohol is sold though. In my Glory at this store.

We have one of these in the Seattle area (and a Hybrid store too!). They're wonderful.

Where at in the Seattle area?  I'd make a trip up from Olympia to check it out.

Being retired, the time and relative lack of convenience are of little consequence.  I believe all new kamados have assist springs for lid opening.

While I use my Jim Bowie more than any other cooker, I like having options.  With a kamado, it's easy to adjust the smoke profile from very light to very pronounced and I can sear  at crazy temps.  My favorite way to cook steak uses both the pellet pooper at 150 degrees to bring the meat up to 110 internal, then move to the kamado at 700+ degrees for the sear.  So, no, you're not wrong, we just have different viewpoints and priorities.

Did I mention that sometimes, it's just fun to light and manage a fire?

The business center is in Lynnwood. The hybrid store is in Tukwila. The hybrid store has a few rows of restaurant supply stuff.

The last that I knew, there's one in Fife and one in Lynnwood. The one in Fife is on 20th St. E, just south of I-5. The one in Lynnwood is on highway 99. These are business centers.

Thanks for the heads up.  I just logged onto the Costco site and there is indeed one in Fife.  MUCH closer for me than Lynwood.  I might have to take a long lunch break one of these days and check it out.

I took yesterday off from work, one of our dogs needed surgery, so I had some free time to make it up to Fife and check out the Costco Business Center.

Was really impressed with the meat selection and prices.  Was also surprised at the size and prices of the larger containers of spices.  The price of the spices alone will have me making trips up there.

I've never been to the one in Fife. Now you make me want to go so I can compare it to the Lynwood one.

You must use buckets of spices.  It takes me forever to use up the quantities they sell.  But the prices are right.  Might be a good thing to buy for larger groups and split up the goods into smaller portions.

Went to Charlottesville Costco, was able to score 2 of the 3 things I have been wanting.  Pork Belly, not thick like I had hoped, but at $2.99/lb, a buck cheaper then any bacon I can find, and about $2 less then the cheapest beef I can find!  Had to snag a couple of those.  Also a 14lb. Prime Brisket that will have a portion removed and sous vide application applied, the rest beef sausage...super bummed no Tri-Tip...Good selection of USDA Prime, and when I hit the Lotto I will be getting some!
