Smoking Whiskey/Bourbon
« on: May 05, 2018, 09:42:20 AM »

Has anyone ever tried to smoke whiskey or bourbon?  I have seen something on here about smoking water for smoked ice cubes, but was wondering about smoking the bourbon instead.  Was out for dinner last night and had an interesting cocktail made with smoked whiskey.  Talking with the bartender, he said they put the booze in the smoker for about 30 minutes with whatever they are smoking (brisket, PP, etc) and strain after smoking.  It was not an overpowering smoke flavor, but it had a hint of smoke and made the drink very interesting.  I will be cooking PP next weekend as a potluck dish and thought I might try to smoke some booze as well.  I might do it separate from the PP as I am not too sure about doing both at the same time.

Sound interesting, I enjoy a good bourbon once and a while, let us know how it turns out.

I have never smoked the bourbon itself, but have put water in the smoker and then made ice cubes with the smoked water.  A single smoked ice cube did not overpower the bourbon.

I would think that there would be no alcohol left in it? Ethanol / Alcohol boils a 174*. Now I know it is proofed so the added water will raise that temp some? Sounds interesting though. :)

Why waste good booze when water will work just as well (if not better).

Dang, no fresh mint for juleps today.
Guess it'll have to be straight.

Yes I have smoked dark rum before ...really enjoy the taste just a hint of smoke, first off I froze the rum for a few days , well I keep my rum in the freezer anyway. I poured in a glass 9x13 baking pan put on the pro for a while set at the lowest setting with my auxillary amazin tube smoker smoking also. Kept an eye on it and as soon as I seen what looked like steam comimg off it and it felt warm to the touch I removed and poured back in the bottle and back in the freezer. Now my Kraken and dew taste awesome

Used to drink a bit of whiskey, ok maybe a tad more. I don't anymore but never smoked it. I used to smoke the ice and pour it over that and enjoyed. We will have a bloody Ceasar with smoked ice and enjoy our breakfast on an occasional Saturday.

I was more into the buzz then the flavor...When you drink Safeway brand whiskey by the half gallon, you probably understand why!
