What region are Ranch Beans a thing.  Living my whole life in the northeast I have never see canned Ranch Beans.  Boston Baked Beans were always the main thing.  See lot’s of variety of Bush’s Beans these days.  Campbell’s pork and beans have almost disappeared from stores and each year my wife has more difficulty finding them.

It might be heresy but I really like doctored up original Bush's baked beans.  I drain off like 80% of the liquid and then add ketchup, yellow mustard, molasses and a little Worcestershire.  Last time I put the pan on the smoker while I was doing a pork butt.  I can't claim there was as strong smokey flavor but they tasted xxxx good.

Regarding the Calico Beans:  Do I slice the sausage into discs before browning?

I slice.

Mrs. ZCZ original recipe did not have sausage, as I recall.
I had another bean recipe that had thin slices of kielbasa as a ingredient.(YUM) I added the ingredient to my Calico beans. I usually shop for Johnsonville, as it's all pork.

I just slice some thinly off the log and then brown them up in either the hamburger renderings or some of the bacon grease.

I too haven't seen much of Campbell's on the shelves. I'm thinkin that Bush's Original would be a good replacement. I do not drain these

Thanks. I'll try the onion and hamburger. In the past I have mixed a can of ranch style and a can of jalapeño refried. It's been years, but I remembered I thought they were good at the time.

So you mixed a can of whole beans and a can of "smashed" beans ( I assume this when you say refried).  How did you ever get the whole beans to literally mix?
