Might Have to Give This a Try
« on: August 02, 2018, 05:33:05 PM »

Maple Bacon Carrots

INGREDIENTS
12 medium carrots, peeled
12 strips bacon
1/4 maple syrup
Freshly cracked black pepper

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400°. Wrap each carrot in one strip of bacon, and place bacon ends down on a large baking sheet. Brush all over with maple syrup and season with black pepper.
Bake 10 minutes, remove from oven and brush with remaining maple syrup. Bake 15 minutes more, or until carrots are tender and bacon is crisp. Serve. (from delish.com)

Cook on the pellet pit instead of oven -- maybe on smoke for a half hour to start?

So one always asks...how would the Queen eat this?  Is it proper to eat this dish with your fingers like asparagus?

I think Emily Post recognizes only two foods which may be eaten with your fingers -- asparagus and fried chicken. So I believe this is knife and folk food at a sit down dinner.  In a turn in box at the Royal, it is grab and eat.

Darn, does not matter, knife and fork or finger food, I am definitely going to try this one.  Like the idea of the 30 minute smoke, see if it gives any additional layer of flavor!

What about jerky and ice cream cones?

EDIT:  Raw vegetables, french fries, chips, crackers and sandwiches?

I should have clarified -- at a sit down dinner.  If one is serving any of the above at a sit down dinner, one is not dining, one is picnicking inside. ;D

So, with the bacon added, would you all prefer the carrot al dente or soft?

I would think with a knife and fork, and al dente.

I am thinking with a raw carrot, by the time the bacon is cooked the carrot would be a nice al dente, which I would prefer. If you would like a softer carrot would have to steam or boil first.  Maybe a 2-3 minute steam?

To my taste, carrots may an exclusion to the adage that bacon goes with anything.

Someone please report on this.
