Care to share any of the other options that make the short list?

I can get a free one from a work gift catalog, and am trying to decide if I should pick it or something else.

That is the issue, I am struggling to even have a short list.  Mostly headphones, bluetooth speakers, turntables, luggage, household small appliances, jewelry, purses...

I've asked my wife to look at it to see if there was something she wanted.

Maybe the $250ish Omaha steak package would be on the list.

We have an oil less fryer but just a counter top style.
We do use it fairly often, it works good for some things. I think it is more like a convection toaster oven, we learned NOT to follow the cooking guidelines, it dang near burns everything that way.
We have used it for wings, corn dogs, fish sticks, pot stickers, egg rolls things like that.
I think it is also safe to say you won't be pleased with the Omaha steaks, I have received them several times as a gift and have not been impressed one bit any of the times.

Ended up going with the 16 steaks four each of fillet, rib eye, sirloin, and NY strip. I didn't need anything else in the catalog and figured that at least this would feed me, my wife, and parents as the meat for 4 meals.

I think it is also safe to say you won't be pleased with the Omaha steaks, I have received them several times as a gift and have not been impressed one bit any of the times.

I don't know how they stay in business.  Their products are not very good by any measurement.

For Christmas we received–
  • 2 beef tenderloin steaks, 5 oz. each, about the size of your palm and 1" thick
  • 2 beef top sirloin steaks, 5 oz. each, about the size of your palm and ¾" thick
  • 2 boneless pork loin chops, 4 oz. each, about the size of your palm and ¾" thick
  • 4 dessert items
All of the meat was ungraded as is typical of them.

I wouldn't buy these items unless it was practically a give-away.  I suppose I can carefully grill them so they're not overdone and slice them for steak salad.

I got them because they were free, and I figured they couldn't be any worse than what I bought at the grocery store.  Plus, it was 16 steaks so I figured my parents could eat with my wife and I 4 times which would make it well worth it.

I get that.  And it's probably better meat that that which is available some parts of the world.

Also, Marcia says that it would be healthier for us if our typical red meat servings were about the size of those we received.  Having said that, I'm amazed that so many people think that their product is of the highest quality.  In this instance we shouldn't equate price and quality.

So I am going to assume they are much like Swiss Colony (are they even around any more?), their base of business is corporate and regular folks looking for gifts, maybe a small percentage of regular repete customers?

That's probably it.  They must survive on buyers who are unaware of the lack of quality and value.

It's a bit like joining a mail-order wine club and thinking that $30 will buy a couple of exceptional bottles of wine.
