Just saw this story today about the original factory getting historic recognition.  I drove by a took a picture of it before heading to the new factory several weeks ago.

I keep trying to get there for their special "behind the scenes" tour, but it seems the only time we're ever in PA is when we visit my MIL at Christmas and around the 4th of July, both times when the factory shuts down. Wish I lived closer than 11-12 hours away.

A lot of those photos remind me of the Collings factory in Austin that I got to tour while on a vacation a few years ago, even down to the soundhole cutout giveaway, though theirs weren't engraved. It was very cool, and interesting, but it obviously lacks the history and heritage.

And Ralphie, Martin's location in Nazareth was the inspiration for the opening line of the Band's "The Weight." Robbie Robertson was looking for a name of a place he could plug into his opening phrase, "I pulled into _____, I was feeling 'bout half-past dead." He was composing the song on his Martin, and happened to look into the soundhole at the back's center seam reinforcing strip and saw the "CF Martin, Nazareth, PA" brand in the wood, and used the name in the song. Or so he says.

That is an interesting story about The Band.  About the only thing he would have pulled into Nazareth for back then would have been the Martin factory or the old race track where Andretti used to race Indy cars.
