Great Drums!
« on: December 08, 2018, 07:41:17 PM »

I usually do drums on the kettle, but tonight I decided on the PG500. Rubbed with Oakridge Secret Weapon, set grill @ 275*, zone 4 for 1hr, zone 1 for 15min, then into the tummy. These turned out really good. Nice and juicy with crispy skin. Couldn't ask for more.

Did you flip at any point in any of the zones?

No flipping in zone 4. I flipped about every 3min in zone 1. A couple of them were smaller, so that actally got tossed back into zone 4 after a couple turns while the others finished in zone 1.

I don't have a grill like yours.  I am asking so that you can elaborate on what you actually did to get what you feel is a great meal.  I think an enhanced story could help others cook better on the same unit or could entice others to want to buy a similar grill to get as good of a meal as yours.  Thanks for your post.  Just asking for more info to help others that visit here as I think that is what makes this place different from other sites.

Basically they were smoked @ 275* for 1hr, then moved to the direct zone for 15min being flipped every few minutes. I think most pellet grills have the direct flame zones now. It was a pretty simple cook overall. I will be adding this into the leg cooking rotation.
