speaking of crab....

Having lived in the Puget Sound region all my life, I've had fresh seafood for decades. Living locally, it's still $$$.

I like King crab. I won't eat Snow crab (aka salt block with texture). I've never eaten Blue crab. I LOVE Dungeness. Cold. No butter. I also love Red Rock crab. They're like mini Dungeness. Much smaller, but the meat is just as sweet.

Call me a snob if ya like, but I've been blessed with some of the finest seafood in the world.

Being from the Northeast (NJ), we mostly eat Blue Claw crab, but I voted for Dungeness as my favorite.  Do not get to eat it often, but my favorite when I do.

Picked up my first fresh dungeness of the season today at Safeway (SW Washington aka not that Vancouver USA).  $7.99 a lb.  I saw a FB post and the Oregon Coast is already at $6.99 a lb.  Surf and turf for dinner tonight!

I've only had king crab.  And not very often as I rarely order it when out to dinner. Don't think I've ever seen blue or dungeons in my area, but never really looked.

Blue because they are so sweet but they are small, but Dungeons is so tastie and meatier, it would be an awful close 2nd.  Best of my knowledge never had the other 2!

I grew up eating blue crabs, so they are a favorite.  I do enjoy the others when I can get them fresh, not much luck of that in the desert.

PS never again for pellet then pan sear.   I'll stick with pellet and gasser sear.   Pan sear in the house is just too much of a mess.

I sear in one of my Kamado's when I smoke and sear.   No mess in the house.

WOW if I could only find Dungeness at these prices. I'm in NC and the best I can do is Walmart @ $16/lb.

Most people will choose the crab they grew up on like most other foods.  I grew up in Coos Bay Oregon eating fresh caught Dungeness crab. The nice part is if you live in the PNW anyone can get a shellfish license and go catch your own fresh crab. My family always had a boat to use but some times with friends we would just go of the docks.

We just rented a house with some friends north of Depoe Bay for the new year(Dec 30-Jan 2nd). We got to watch the crab boats set there pots from the dinning room table. It was neat to watch at night with there lights on. Wish I had brought my spotting scope because I got tired of using binos. We also saw 3 whales from the table also. Got to love the coast.

Who was the first person that decided Deopoe Bay was a good spot to park a boat? I will pass on that boat ride.
