What's this world coming to?
« on: January 06, 2019, 09:06:51 PM »

The other night I passed this billboard on I-94 near Kalamazoo, MI. It had a picture of a pig with the message: "I am Me, Not Meat. See the Individual. Go Vegan."  :pig:

It was put there by PETA. I just don't know what to think or say sometimes.

well humans are omnivores.   We needed the protein in animals to evolve our unique brains.   For me it's just natural.  And when properly prepared they taste great!

For PETA, I just don't understand how they rationalize.    Does the pig in the picture move in and take the guest room if it's a person?   Does a PETA member fumigate their house when cockroaches infest or termites destroy?  And if insects are off and it's only mammals, what about rats and mice?   The animals are people too argument seems to always fall apart at some level when you consider all the animals of this planet.

Oh well everyone has their favorite topic to get bent out of shape about logic be darned.

I guess it is such a non issue for me.  I do believe we need to make sure that there is a certain level of humanity in rasing and slaughter.  I am not suggesting Kobe type treatment, woman spittin Rice wine on them and brushing them lovingly, but they should not suffer when being raised or slaughtered...that is why I have had to rethink my eating of veal depending on how raised!

But, everything else...I will use these guidelines...

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”  “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”  The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

Not real sure, but I don't think we're dealing with very rational people in all walks of life nowadays.   We have an animal sanctuary just down the road from us.  He's vegan and so is his wife.   They have animals.  Lots and lots of them in the house all the time.   (you name it and it's in there)

In graduate school I worked in a primate research institution. An organization similar to PETA called the ALF (Animal Liberation Front) broke into the university (because of the primate research), stole all the animals and released them into the southern California desert.

As part of my research, I kept two New Zealand white rabbits in which I produced antibodies eventually labeled with gold particles - these were used for furthering in vitro fertilization research. My two rabbits were my pets, and were never harmed in any way, and were always excited to see me coming with their treats as evidenced by their hopping around and cuddling against me - they were stolen from and released into the desert, and were found dead shortly later.

There is nothing worse than ignorance fueling action in all aspects.

And so is the animal waste, and smells. Watch where you step when visiting. :puke:
