New Model - Jim Olson
« on: January 12, 2019, 11:06:13 AM »

I saw some details about a new model on one of my GMG facebook groups.  I can't post the link, but below are some of the changes.

1)  Grill view window
2)  Pellet hopper view window
3)  Easy access clean-out system
4)  External adjuster for quick and easy temperature correction
5)  Wider leg design, oversized all terrain wheels, larger locking casters and front and bottom shelves

Sounds interesting. I would like to see it w/ all the new areas clearly shown.. With all the pits out there, the manufacturers must innovate to survive.

They have decided to start a Prime Pellet Grills line with more features and price, and continue the current models and call them the Choice line.

The hopper window is great idea...not certain about window for the chamber, but I guess if you are willing to keep it clean, will be a nice addition.  Upgrades to controller also.

I'm not sold on the pellet grills with the hopper window as I think it could be another area where condensation, moisture, etc could possibly get into the hopper and wreak havoc.

There is no link yet...I use to work for the company so I still receive emails.  I have told them they should remove me, but that has not happened.  Maybe I should not share this, but I always wanna look like a big shot, so I do...

If I want to know how many pellets are in the hopper I walk out on the deck and take a peek inside.  The window would eliminate opening the deck door twice and a 15-foot walk over and back.  Hmmmm, marginal benefit.

Currently, I open the door if I want to see inside the cooking chamber.  The pit looses heat but recovers in about 30 seconds.  If I cleaned the glass regularly I might be able to see the meat, but the inside of my pit smokes up rather fast, also, it might be dark in there.  <Thinking>  Again, marginal benefit.

EDIT:   :2cents:

Hopper window won't do any good if the pellets stick to the side......

Like Reuben states, quick clean feature.

I think they have a new sear type function.  Dual meat probes, standard front shelf.  12 V Aux, and a USB charging port...When I cooked on a pellet grill 22 years ago for the 1st time, I would not have even known what that was!

New generation of people getting into pellet cookers. Makes features like WiFi and the windows for viewing a selling point. Older school pellet cookers are fine with the new features, but may not trade in their non WiFi GMG grill.

Window on lid would be of very little benefit especially living in cold weather areas where we use the thermal blanket. Pellet view window would be a minor change as just opening the lid or using the low pellet alarm on the app.

I like the external adjuster and the easy access clean out. That sturdy front shelf would be nice too. Most of the others I would trade for a more insulated and heavier built pit with better racks.  However, my current 2014 DB model works fine without any of the upgrades.
