FMT has or has bought every cooking gadget known to man.

Haha. Pretty close. An Argentine grill was something I always wanted to use, but never took the plunge. I ordered one though, and in about 11 more weeks I'll know what it's like. I will start a new thread though so I am not stepping on Bobitis's pasta topic.

I do make my own pasta using the Phillip's pasta maker.  I love it and it is one of go to machines so I keep it on my island.  Like others have said and IMO it taste better then box pasta and cooks faster.  I serve with my pasta sauces, cream sauces and sometimes with just plain fresh ground cheese.  I like it so much I even bought my daughter one.

I would like the Philips Smart Pasta Maker.  Built in scale, and 8 different dies that store in a shelf under the machine.  It was quite interesting!  But I have given up on medium to large kitchen gadgets as they cant stay out and therefore don't get used!  If I had it my way, the house would have islands in the ceiling that come down so the device can be used and then retract to be flush with the ceiling!  Much like the Fruit Island in Back to the Future II!

Phillips has come out with a newer model so you might be able to get the older one a good price on either Amazon or William and Sonoma.  Especially if they have a coupon.

I understand the space issue, however, as I do 99% of the cooking my wife indulges me on what i can keep on the island and the counter.  Actually there are only three things my Italian espresso machine, my kitchen aide and the pasta machine everything is either on a cart on the back room.

Was going to try this today but we lost track of time. Looks like we are having our 1st go at home made pasta tomorrow. And going to toss in some mudbugs from a boil we go to every year.

If you want to make your own pasta, and learn from folks who have years of experience.

Check out Pasta Grannies

I never really watched much of it, but I had happened to catch a 'news' show about this... looked really interesting.   I myself have never made any of my own Pasta, but I must say, I do have thoughts of it now.

To reply to the question: The answer is the same as why you do your own cooking..We find we can tailer our cooking to our tastes and knowing what is actually in the food, is more satisfying... With

manufactures/suppliers cutting corners to be comparative, product quality can often be comprised...  I remember a few years back when our daughters got a hold of some newly branded candy. I had a look @

the ingredient label to see shellac and food colouring as the ingredients. To me, that's scary. That is one of the reasons I feel more comfortable going the homemade route.

I am not sure how it will turn out but here is the 1st attempt, 30 minutes to rest and then we roll it out. Don’t have the gadgetry to do it otherwise.
