Would love your thoughts on burgers, especially if you have a grilling option on your smokers. Believe it or not, my wife wants burgers for Mothers Day!

I love hamburgers.  If you have it available, I would recommend also making some bison burgers.  It is more expensive, but I sure think it is good.  Are you having several folks or just wife and kids?

My thoughts are I could eat a cheeseburger with mayo & onions on a brioche bun twice a day, for many days in a row!

Why not.  I would buy the best sirloin I could with a high fat content for flavor.  I would dice some mushrooms and saute them and cut your wife's favorite cheese into small pieces.  Mix the saute mushrooms and cheese directly into the sirloin, add salt and pepper to your liking. Then make 8 to 10 oz patties, grill to desired temp and serve on a toasted bun with red onion, lettuce and tomato on the side.  :cool:

I like juicy hamburgers which have at least an 80-20% ratio of lean to fat and a 70-30% ratio is even more tasty for me.  Not the healthiest chow for sure, but I don't eat it every day. 

Store bought ground beef labeled '80-20' is usually ground chuck, since most cuts from the chuck primal have about 20% fat naturally, but it's rather one-dimensional in flavor, I think.

For homemade ground beef, I grind a blend of chuck, short rib, & brisket meat for a more balanced flavor.

Ground sirloin has great beef flavor, but is much leaner than 80-20, so I would add fat to it if grinding or mix it with another meat.  Same for bison meat -- great flavor, but very lean (and very healthy!).

You could also make stuffies -- two thin patties with things stuffed inside -- cheese, mushrooms, grilled onions, etc. -- then crimp the edges together to seal and cook.  Can be a bit of a mess, but they are kinda fun to eat -- a surprise in every bite!!!

Can never go wrong with a good homemade cheeseburger.  If your wife chose that for her Mother's Day dinner....win win.

Cast iron skillet at 555f or so is how I cook them.  The Yoder does have direct grilling, but I like them better in a skillet than grilled.

Or just put a flattop on your pellet grill
I have done that with pellet, gas and my charcoal grills

I've been playing around with some caramelized onion jam on burgers and really like it. Adds a whole new layer for that first bite. Just a thin spread on the buns while toasting. Non onion eaters have even enjoyed it.
