Let it not be said...
« on: May 14, 2019, 12:47:41 PM »

That I am a Meat Snob!  I am willing to try anything, if it tastes good, who cares if it is good for you!  Tofu is a great example for me!  But at $10.75 and $10.50 per pound respectively, it is just not tenable!  Yes, almost $6 for 2 patties, and $9 for 4 links! I can makes some really outrageously Fine tasting GB & Sausage for that price!

I will let you know how they taste.  I wanted the Sweet Italian but not available, they also had a Brat, but I wanted to see how close they could come on a sausage I feel I know what it should taste like!  Their web site says they are made from peas, I love green peas, so I figured a no brainier.   Then I realized they probably mean Chicpea, which i also love, so time will tell.

Can't wait to hear this.  I love hot italian sausage but not peas.

You are a better man than me.    I’ll hold off on this trend until my Dr. makes me, especially at those prices.

I was surprised at the "fat" in the pan.  Till I read the ingredients and all those good oils...The link cooks more like "regular" sausage then the burger like a "regular" pattie.  But for you crusty burger fans, may not look like it, but it gets that and then some.

Burger read 152° IT, the link 143°.  The snap on the IS was as good as any I have had, it had a decent taste, they did well to replicate the flavor.  The burger.  When I started cooking it there was a smell I could not put my finger on...I finally realized it was the smell of a can of Hormel Corned Beef Hash, just about the time you are going to flip it.  Hey...

They were both much better then I thought they would be!  The burger tasted like it had well cooked bacon ground into it! The sausage was not bad, the burger was better!  If they get the price in line with meat, I could see switching, but just way to expensive (wait till 1st by-pass then say this) for me at this time!  But if a Dr said you cant have pork or beef meat any more, but you can eat this stuff...I could live with it.  I bet the Sweet is even better and would do well with some onions and peppers!

The burger had a good texture and a good crust which is what I think gave it some flavor.  I will probably buy one more time and have us grill some on the Memphis -- I think it would be better with a bit of a char.  Not a real big meat flavor, but certainly good and, if price was more reasonable, I would eat over a burger (for health reasons) -- and I have never been able to say that about a veggie burger.

I hope others see it at their markets, gulp at the price, but buy and try and post their review.

+1.  If I went to a place that served both I would sue them if they fed me the wrong stuff.  I can tell you it is absolutely gross in my mind. :)

As I understand things, Burger King is going to start rolling out Impossible Burgers (which are basically this same thing as Beyond Meat).  But they are charging a dollar more per burger, and they are running out at their test restaurants, so I don't think they're ever going to give someone who hasn't paid the up charge the wrong burger.  And in blind taste tests at these lower end burger joints, folks couldn't tell the difference and I gather a significant group felt that the fake burger tasted better.

There are a lot of places around here that offer some kind of substitute although I am not sure what kind?
I personally have not tried one but wouldn't be opposed to it but it would have to be awfully darn good for me to switch from ground meat burgers, too dang hard to beat.
I wonder what impact, if any, it will have on beef supply-pricing-etc.
