Since Bent is posting about the tomatoes, I will post about the melons. Have a puppy class tonight and also one of the pup's last class before going to college, so taking some garden treats. Two cantaloupes, but only one watermelon. It was a Dixie Queeen, probably 30 lbs, so lots of melon!!

So, you got two jars of tomato sauce from 12# of fresh tomatoes?

Less peels, Yes.  Full disclosure, it is an estimate, maybe more it was very heavy.  I will weigh next time so I have accurate, exact data!

OK, 29 lbs. of tomatoes.  The ones in the roasting pan were off one plant, the others off 4 other plants.  That one tomato is probably the biggest I have ever grown.

I am going to say this will produce 3-4 quarts, I will weigh the final product too!  I am going to assume about a 75% weight reduction...but that is a wild guess.

To lazy to start a new pot of water.  The corn was way past its prime, but I would still not recommend the technique!

I got to say, I absolutely love fresh tomatoes and I kind of get sad when I see them not eaten like an apple. They do look fantastic, and so does the sauce, I left that part out.

I love fresh tomatoes, but unfortunately my acid reflux doesn't.  I would have thick tomato sandwiches every lunch and tomato salads every night with this crop, but I find I have to limit myself to about twice a week.  I am glad they aren't going to waste.

I think this last batch would make great pizza sauce.  I am more into white sauces these days, but it just has that texture and thickness.

Lot's of growing season left, but I have had enough. About 15 quarts of tomato sauce, 4 with puréed red bell peppers in it. About the same for the pickled bells and chili's and 12 pounds of fresh vacuum sealed! Time to have some pizza and pasta!

Now it is time to haul up dirt from the evil tractor eating mud pond, try and level area, put cinder blocks around beds, fill beds with amended soil and wait for Spring!

Love that view across the fields from your place!  Wow, the bushes and trees are getting bigger from when I first saw it.  Wondering if squads of Union and Confederate soldiers have marched across those fields?

Marched and camped for the winter.  The Union forces occupied Culpeper in winter of 1863-64 and a big encampment was in the Stevensburg area (about a mile from us) and spread all over the countryside.  Not a tree left standing in Culpeper County after they left.

When I lived in So. Cal. back in the late 90's I traveled and did technical machine and software training.  I spent two weeks at Schindler Elevator in Gettysburg.  Over the weekend in between I drove down to see my cousin who is now in Springfield.  Visited the battlefield at Manassas and then down to Monticello.  Beautiful countryside!

A little story I heard: back when Stonewall Jackson had the Union forces on the run in the Shenandoah Valley a Union soldier went running past an officer.  The officer called out: "Where you going soldier?!  Don't you love your country?"  To which the soldier replied: "Yes sir I do, and I'm trying to get there as fast as I can."

wow I did a terrible job keeping up with this thread.  I wish I would have captured about 6 weeks back.   Rain is upon us and I got probably my last harvest yesterday.   (possibility for some Raspberries and tomatoes yet)
